Followup - Farmall 706 D with air noise / no power

Posted several weeks back about my Farmall 706 diesel (282) with no power and producing a weird noise especially with the air cleaner off. Bought a Habor Freight diesel compression tester and one of the fittings worked in the glow plug holes. Cylinders # 2 and 3 could only mustard 50 pounds. Took the head off today and the gasket was blown out between the cylinders. Ordered a new one today. Will have the head checked.

Seeking comments on whether to paint the gasket with silver paint or use the spray on Copper Coat gasket sealer?????? Any recommendations are appreciated.

"paint the gasket with silver paint or use the spray on Copper Coat"

In my (not so limited) experience, aluminum spray paint or copper coat work equally well. I'd hold off on the MUSTARD, though!

Well..the copper coat I have used is basically copper powder and the goo is like rubber cement. Works great on everything I have but no Diesel engines. I can remember those great smelling bottles of real Indian cheif gasket cement that kinda smells like molasses. That real thick brown stuff.

I say away from copper coat anymore. Had some not so good results from it.
What sort of gasket does that engine use. Many need nothing at all.

Make sure the head and block are flat. Assuring this is quite important. Either the silver spray or Coppercoat will be fine. I use Coppercoat and apply two layers that are just covering, not running off. I also believe it is best to apply and initial torque within 15 minutes of coating. Jim
