Received new chip or so called ignition module. Received it today. Instilled, still no spark even by reversing the leads. Re system. Runs now after cleaning and sanding, reset the gap.moved flywheel cleaned old points. Just seems new ignition would be more dependable?

Good. That has to be an antique to have points and condensor.

Could you replace the coil with a Briggs unit with the electronic switch built in ?? I had endless point trouble 30 years ago with Briggs powered pump engines that had to deal with water spray. At that time, Briggs sold an electronic module that replaced the points and was just glued to the coil. I never had a bit of problem with those and still use one of them 30+ years later. Very reliable conversion.

It is and I would buy a new engine except it has two shafts. I use the main shaft to power a winch in and one off cam. Original use of engine was a tiller with reverse shaft to reel cable out.
