Grandpa's Tractor is Done

Just wanted to show off the finished product. This 1956 Farmall 400 began life in the town of Dore, North Dakota...near Fairview, MT. My
grandpa, Kermit Swenson bought it new, and used it on the farm until he died in 1968. My dad, Wayne, used it while he was in high school. It
was purchased by a neighbor at the farm sale in 1968. Dad had wanted to get it back for many, many years. He finally got it back three
springs ago. Lots of use had taken its toll on it, but it lives again! Dad is so proud to have it back and I was happy to do what I could along the
way. I am not a body man, but I play one on tv...or something like that!

Nothing like having a family tractor. Dad bought a new 4020 in 1968 and sold it in 1972 to put a down payment on a farm. I bought it back about five years ago. Dad passed away in 2000 so I think about him every time I run it. Tom

Very nice. Even though those four huge pistons going up and down sound great I know you will put a nice silver stack on her.

Real nice tractor, always liked the 400 Model, probably because my Aunt gave me a 400 pedal tractor for Christmas back in the 60's she worked at an IH dealership. The pedal tractor went thru the family and I have it back now restored like your tractor.

Is that item for sale? I have a friend that would give you a fair price, he is currently in the military overseas I will send a check on his behalf for double what you are asking. That should pay for the shipping and return the rest to me. thanks for the quick sale. LOL You have a great looking tractor. Bill

Thanks for all the compliments...rest assured, it has the air cleaner and muffler on it...easier to avoid bug splatter on fresh things while traveling. Here are a few of the beginning and during process pictures as requested. The previous owner had used it for hauling manure...he never used the brakes, he would just let the front end hit the honey wagon to stop it. We even had to replace the bolster and steering components because of the bend they had taken on...I have never seen one with a bent bolster like that before. Thankfully, we had a 450 diesel carcass to get those things from. If you ever want to know some of the differences between gas and diesel front end parts, I can help...we learned some of them the hard way! We ran it around on a narrow front while we rebuilt a 560 wide front to replace the destroyed original...by the way, the 560 spindles don't fit the 400 hubs...but we overcame that obstacle as well. The engine and TA were rebuilt and then the cleaning and refurbishing were done.

Looks real good. Should give you a lot of satisfaction to get it back in the family and a lot of pride have it done... Good Job.
