My Dad's old MF 135 Diesel Round 2

To everyone on here that has posted about helping us keep old tractors running especially bleeding a diesel fuel system I owe all of you a great big thanks.

Now some history for you. As some of you will recall a few months back I brought my Dad's on MF 135 home (Dad had passed). I was going to tackle getting it back up into a reasonable usable condition.

PTFarmer told me about changing the fuel filter assemblies to spin on units as the originals were leaking. Well we found the leak and in the process found that one of the original filter housing was broken off where is bolts on. This forced the change out.

After the change out including the rubber washers we were having issues getting the system bled out to allow the tractor to run. The I&T Shop manuals that I found at my Dad's were not real clear (could have been my understanding) as to how to bleed the systems.

Where did I turn to? YT of course and after some searches and reading past posts and a good link to a youtube video we were able to get the old gal running again in about an hour.

See the attached youtube link with it running. This was after a bit of a wash to get some of the gunk off.

Thanks again everyone! The amount of knowledge here and the willingness to share it is amazing.

Really neat that you got your dad's old tractor running.

Especially touching since he has passed on.

I did the spin on filter on my 135 when I first got it over a year ago. It's sure nice not to have to mess with the old style CAV filters. Nice to see the conversion work out for you (wasn't so hard was it).

Well is had its issues. I had to order all new fuel line rubber seals to go into the filter housings from YT. Then had to do a lot of searches here and other places on bleeding the fuel system. First time I have been that deep into an older diesel fuel system. Once I got all the knowledge on how to bleed it out it was not to bad.

I learned a lot and so did my brother who was helping me.

Was going to replace or rebuild the the genny, replace the gauges and wiring harness to get all the gauges and charging system and tires replaced. That is all going to have to wait since my heart attack. Got doc and hospital bills coming in out the wazzau so to speak.

Thanks again everyone for your help whether you knew you helped or not.

Another benefit of the spin on filters is you can fill them with clean fuel right before you spin them on, saves a bit of time on bleeding the system.

Thought about that after we had it running.
