Have a 520 John Deere tractor with a leaking rear axle seal. Any easy way to replace or stop the leak.
Not excited about tearing the whole rear end apart.
Thanks.

You do not have to be excited, but that is what needs to be done. I helped a friend do his a couple of years ago.

I did my 530 last year, I replaced the bearings at the same time( it was going bad, leaking seal caused bearing issues), took some time ordering parts and picking them up. but it needed to be done, a helper or two at times really helps. no easy way, tractors are over 50 years old but I enjoy working on them.

I can understand how bad brg can cause seal to leak but I don't understand how bad seal caused brg to get bad unless one operated machine at to low trans oil level.

Changing inner seal requires removing rockshaft housing with pto assembly then pulling axle out of housing a little way. It not a real bad task. [/url]
