Why read???

Is it just me? When reading through a lot of threads I would say that probably a quarter have information in them that is not pertinent to the OP. In other words the responder apparently just skimmed the OP then went into his response. Now and then the information given is just plain wrong because it doesn't apply to a certain part of the info given in the OP. A lot of responses result in additional information being given by the Original Poster which then makes a later response incorrect due to this additional information. Maybe it is just too time consuming o read everything? But then why take the time to reply?

I think you're low saying a quarter of the responses. I said 50% when this same thing kinda came up on another forum the other day,and I'm sticking to it.

"But then why take the time to reply?"
I though I might have been the only one to notice. The answer is because some people think they know about everything so they respond regardless of subject. My view is ITS BEST TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND RISK BEING THOUGHT A FOOL THAN SPEAK UP AND REMOVE ALL DOUPT. I recall my dad having the same complaint when men sat around on nail kegs instead of the net to discuss things.

I typically read a whole conversation first. Then if I think I can add something, I will. I'm surprised by how many will repeat advice/ideas/etc. I know some people like to hear themselves talk. But taking that over into typing is beyond my comprehension! It's too much work, at least it is for me.

Do you think it would be better if no one posted. I think that when someone posts some thing that has already been posted is to show they also think that's right I like this forum and don't wish to criticize any one. Randy

It looks like you didn't read my whole post dahlin, LOL.

That happens in every forum. Sometimes the treads are too long to read and sometimes the threads mean different things to different people. Sometimes it's difficult to understand the point the poster is trying to make.

I also like this forum , But when I ask about ieg a last production serial number , I get a discussion on a tractor two , or three series older , and then a debate that this discontinued brand is still in production be cause its part of another brand. wtf?

I do like Seafoam. It has helped clear up a lot of sputtering engines. I think it cleans up a lot of the varnish deposits left by gasoline.

One purpose of [i:654c4848f0]reading everything[/i:654c4848f0] in the original post is to try to identify the question or questions that are being asked.

Once the question is identified, read the question carefully.

Write it down on paper or type it in the [b:654c4848f0]Message:[/b:654c4848f0] box on the forum.

Read the original post again noting the information given by the original poster that will help eliminate redundancy in the answer.

Keep to the point; the answer should be as brief as possible for a complete answer.

Don't write about other things than what the question asked for.

After [i:654c4848f0]reading everything[/i:654c4848f0] in the previous replies from other forum members, note the information or opinions provided.

If there is additional information from either the operator's manual, service manual, or parts catalog that has not been presented, then consider whether to [i:654c4848f0]take the time to reply[/i:654c4848f0].

Hope this helps.

Not just you. I recently posted about some engine trouble I was having, some replies insisted I had a certain part on that engine that was probably bad, when I said I didn't, several times. I should know what I'm looking at, I would think. They didn't want to believe me. Even posted diagrams from engines that weren't mine, when I gave the exact engine number. Oh, well...

Man, you'd think we'd get better service for what we're paying, right? What do you mean this site is FREE and the participants are VOLUNTEERS?

These are complicated problems we deal with on this forum in many cases, and a detail will drop out here and there. For many people it's difficult to keep more than a couple of things straight in their heads at any given time.

What counts is people are TRYING to help. Ranting and raving and railing against them isn't productive. You're the one with the broken tractor asking for advice. Ignore the answers that don't apply and pick the brains of the people that seem to be on the right track.

Oh, and once a thread has gone off the reservation, you aren't going to bring it back. Best to start over from a different angle.

Oh, and when someone gives you something that doesn't answer your exact question, they are trying to get you to consider something that you may not have considered before. It could be something that will help you avoid an expensive mistake later on. Instead of holding your breath and stomping your feet, tuck the information away in your "might be useful" file and THANK them for it.

It's like trying to herd cats. LOL! Forum responses are often just an opinion, and just like noses, everyone generally has one, and they're not always the same.

Engineering, you are the one with the rant , LOL. My OP was four lines, your RANT is nine. By the way it appears that you did not read my whole OP because you apparently missed "Now and then the information given is just plain wrong because it doesn't apply to a certain part of the info given in the OP." Surely you aren't applauding giving someone wrong information for the sake of quick reading are you? I believe that I give a lot more than I receive here, but it is all basically entertainment. I have always given a lot of volunteer time to my community, but being a volunteer doesn't relieve me of the need to still DO THE JOB RIGHT, and to take a little pride in what I do for my community.

Some times after first few responses the subject seems to drift, have noticed that on many forums.

Can you imagine calling an outsourced Tech Services number for a TO30? I bet that would be interesting, but probably not as worthwhile as using this forum, even with a few minor distractions.

Coffee shop conversation goes all over the place in a very short time.

That's what this place is. And I like that.

Used to be pretty carefully monitored to be on topic. I think each of the specialty forums still are more or less on topic.

But this tractor general area was opened up, and we just have conversations here. It's great if they are about ag or tractors or a farm issue, but
thry can wander some. I enjoy it.

It can be a little frustrating if you ask a. Question and get off beat replies, but still, here you have your best chance to get some helpful info
amongst the chatter! Where else do you go for experience on older farm stuff that has as much chance of getting a good set of ideas?

(quoted from post at 10:12:34 07/25/17) Do you have a good recipe for guacamole?

3 Haas avocados, halved, seeded and peeled
1 lime, juiced
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1/2 medium onion, diced
1/2 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
1 clove garlic, minced

Directions

Watch how to make this recipe.

In a large bowl place the scooped avocado pulp and lime juice, toss to coat. Drain, and reserve the lime juice, after all of the avocados have been coated. Using a potato masher add the salt, cumin, and cayenne and mash. Then, fold in the onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic. Add 1 tablespoon of the reserved lime juice. Let sit at room temperature for 1 hour and then serve.

It's like going to a barber shop where conversations change and drift all over the place? I've been to a couple of barber shops that have beer in the fridge in addition to the soda machine, and one of them is tall boy beers. Conversations in both change quite a bit, and the one with the tall boy beers has a tendency to change mid sentence and often. All barber shops should serve beer. It should be a law.

Everyone has different back grounds, experiences, perspectives and opinions. Posting on the internet always has some risk because you have no control over who will respond. It seems that the vast majority of posters (95 plus percent) are seriously trying to be helpful. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if the original poster is looking for new ideals and creative alternate solutions, validation of just one idea, or just conversation and commiseration. Ultimately, it's really up to the OP to decide which responses are helpful.

Surely I am because they are trying to help. Okay, sometimes you'll get a psychopath who intentionally gives wrong information but the rest usually pile on immediately, even if their advice isn't complete or doesn't take some little detail into account.

Most people are not great writers. Most people are not great readers. It's just something we have to deal with. You can't make people write well, read thoroughly, understand completely, or not post.

The good response’s ask questions to build a battle plan instead of blowing it out there arse then have to defend their lack of knowledge on the subject. Sometimes you get lucky and it’s a pattern frailer most of the time the poster does not give enough info to make an educated guess so you have to question him. Then you are lucky to get him to answer a few questions because he’s looking for a silver bullet he will take the high road from the ones with the most post counts are the first to reply.

It’s just a lack of reasoning from the poster and the one’s that jump in with no plan of attract, then you get into subjects that have nuttin to do with the original question… BTDT and hold my head in shame….

I always try to help where I can. If I don't have a clue, I keep my thoughts to myself. If I'm unsure, but "think" it might be something, I'll word it as such, that I don't know, but.....

I really like YT! The people here are fantastic....even the very few who I don't really care that much for, but they add even more variety to the forum, not to mention they are also some pretty smart cookies! So I'm just happy to be here, and will continue to help folks where I can.
