Driving The Commander

Ok, maybe I am wrong but I seem to recall the outline of the "Commander" sign on the side of the hood of this one we loaded. Looked just like the one in this ad from 1966.

My Grandpa had a short-wheelbase Commander, like the one in the ad. The short wheelbase wide front was an option for both the 6000 and Commander. The Commander had decals on the side of the hood. The 6000 had a sign on the side of the hood, saying "6000" or "Diesel 6000".

Thanks. We are looking into it. I don't like to post incorrect information so if I'm wrong, I'll admit it. This was a Western, or Wheatland model so of course no 3 point hitch. It did have the adjustable front axle and set in the short wheelbase (reversed) position.

Grandpa and dad both had 6000 commanders
with SOS, matter of fact that was the
first tractor I drove. Dad has both of them
now. Yours looks like a commander until I
see the front and then it doesnt. Maybe
send us some pics of the front. I think I
heard The early 6000 were painted red, the
later ones were blue, and next was the
commander which was painted blue also.
Nice sounding tractor either way.

Yes, the earlier ones were "red bellies" like all the other Fords from the fifties-early sixties. And I agree, this 6000 has a slightly different grille setup than the one in the ad. This is a picture from last week showing the front.

I had one with the short style front end. I had the regular 6000, 1964 year model. Mine had the three point hitch. It was a diesel. Local ford dealer was going out of business, I had had the engine completely overhauled but never had the transmission serviced so called them up to see if they could check adjustments. During the service time they call and asked if they could take some pictures of it with the engineers that had developed the 6000s. I said sure but would like one of the pictures. Sad to say, I never got one.

Other than grill change. The trans cooler lines on 6000 came out top cover of trans and commander has lines with banjo bolts in side of trans case
