I posted a while back about my offset flail mower I bought on the cheap at an auction. I really needed it centered so I can haul it on my trailer. I had the week off work so I spent a couple afternoons on it.
I cut all the mounts off and shifted the 3 point and gearbox assy around 20". I then extended the driveshaft tube. I didn't have a long enough scrap of 2.5" pipe to make it in one piece, so it has a splice. I figured I didn't have anything to lose by trying to stretch the driveshaft, so I went for it. Solid piece of 1.5" with a 1.125" hole bored in each end about 2" deep. I then cut the original in 2 and pressed it all together and welded. It only has a few thousandths runout so should be fine. Making the tube and driveshaft saved me around $350.
I have a couple bearings for the rear roller and a new set of knives on order. I may even blast it and paint it. Should make a nice mower now that I can haul it without leaving a trail of broken mailboxes behind me.
I don't remember who suggested Montage for the parts, but I thought they were reasonable. Even gave me free shipping.
