Brought this home from an auction yesterday.
Always wanted one for little odd jobs and to teach
the kids how to make concrete. No motor but I had
one under the bench. I couldn't beat the price. $10.
I did chip a fair amount out of the drum though.

I have one like that it comes in real handy. I don't know why people don't clean the drums when they are through. Dad's was like that when he got it. He put some metal scrap in it and ran it for a while. It cleaned up fairly good. Stan

I used the tap tap tap method. Got fairly clean now. Now I just have wire a switch and cord to the motor and put a pulley and belt on it.

I have one very similar, I've mixed a lot of concrete in that thing. Auctioneer could',t get a bid I bib 5$ he said sold. I added a switch into the cord and cleaned the drum. Best 5 bucks I think I've ever spent. gobble

Nice to see a M. Ward & Co. mixer. At some point they all ditched those cast beams.

I've seen a few over the years, if one looks long enough, chances are good.

I found an old sears mixer, cast iron beam, drum with no concrete in it, not even a dent. The owner cleaned it correctly after every use. The seller was his, he showed me a big patio his dad built using the mixer I bought from him. Still had the old GE motor on it in working condition. Same frame as yours, same wheels too.

Just like Larry says, run some gravel it will shine up inside.

Are you going to make a new casting for the broken one, or try to find another piece? Sure hope so. That's from a time when things built in America were built with pride. Great buy!

Mine cost me $65 brand new,but that was back in 1962, Bought it from the GLF in Sherburne. My father and I were building a concrete block garage for an elderly lady. I decided I wasn't gonna mix any more concrete by hand.

Mont Ward had a lot of their equipment like this made by Gilson. Maybe that helps for finding parts sometime in the future.

I paid $50 for a sears mixer. No motor. I had to make a bushing for the shaft with the worm gear.

I use a 1/4 hp motor and the smallest pulley possible on motor.

I used Muriatic Acid to clean mine out after using a hammer.

I have one just like that but not in as good condition. It was my Dad's. Would you believe that he poured a full basement with it? Him and two hired men and two wheelbarrows did it.

About 20 years ago ,I bought an old old mixer for $25.00 ,All worn out'to say the least. Spent the better part of a day brazing up the gear. I called M.W to get a new gear and the fellow laughed and said the parts were N.l.A. The mixer was over 25 years old!. STILL USING IT to pour the base for the outdoor wood furnace, then it will be used to do the same thing for my daughters outdoor furnace. Old is still good, with a lot of care. Just Like Me LOL. SAVE THE OLD STUFF. Regards LOU.
