I have a Massey Ferguson 175 tractor that I'm replacing the fuel filters (Part #1851 890 M1) on. The filters are the CAV 296 type used on many tractors. Attached is a picture of the filters. The original filters are on the bottom and the aftermarket replacements on the top. The inlet side of the filters is on the left? and the outlet on the right? of the picture. The original filters have a solid plate to cap the end thus the fuel is forced to flow from the outside in or inside out depending on how the housing is plumbed. The replacements do not have the plate and it appears that fuel could flow axially through the pleats from one end to the other. Shining a flashlight through the slots on the one end of the filter reveals large gaps in the pleats and appears as if the fuel would not be filtered at all. My question is; are these the wrong filters for this housing? Am I overlooking something?
Thanks
