Triple 4 Massey

I took this shot of my brother's triple 4 Massey this morning. We had to start this one to get it out of the way before we could get the Ford 6000 tractor out of the shed. It made for some interesting video. The diesel Ford took a little shot of ether to get it going after a 14 year rest. Not sure how many years the Massey gas tractor had sat but it fired up with no major problems.

Knew a fellow who raised vegetables- had several Ford 6000's back in the day, bought them because of the slow ground speeds you could get with the Select-O-Speed transmission. Had about 3 of them sitting on the fencerow in the 80's- I asked if he could make one good one out of the 3- he said no, the same thing was wrong with all of them. You can guess what it was.

Interesting country you're in, Rusty- is the water level still rising?

In fact our water levels are dropping like we have not seen since 2010. We have had less than an inch of rain since spring thaw and there was not much snow melt. So our crops are mostly surviving on last year's moisture. The slough I pumped my sprayer water from all spring has dried up for the first time in years. Had to move to a deeper one.

It's terrible how dry it can get in the praries. It amazes me how crops can hang on for dear life when they need to. That's a beautiful picture you posted there,it would make a very nice print. Thank you for taking the time to post the wonderful pictures and videos that you do showing us all around your farm and what it's like living on a farm. Great education for those who aren't fortunate enough to experience farm life.

I looked at a pair of 6000 Commanders a few years back. Overall pretty good shaple. Guy wanted 3K for both and he had all the service manuals. One wide front and one narrow, good tires. One had "transmission issues" but ran good. The other took some ether on a 50 degree day and smoked. I always wanted to tear into an SOS but I wasn't looking for a "project". I have enough of those. I walked away.

Thanks Philip d. Sometimes the best photos just kind of jump out at me with no warning and I have to grab the camera pretty quick. In fact I had just pulled into the yard with the Loadstar and saw these geese. Quickest camera at hand was the i phone in my pocket so I grabbed it as fast as I could and snapped this one. Did not even notice how good the sky and the old Massey looked at the time. We do have our share of scenery and interesting stuff to video so I don't let it go to waste.

Only ONE guy in our whole area brave enough to buy a Ford 6000 Commander. Watching that disaster unfold kept any more from being sold. Tractor spent more time in the shop or traveling to/from shop than it spent on the farm. During one of it's short periods of running, owner drove it the half mile to the feed mill. Even idling it sounded about ready to fly apart. It jerked and bucked moving a half empty wagon on/off the scale platform.

Took a LOT of years before any more Blue tractors showed up anywhere around.

This one must have had the bugs ironed out by previous owners. It had no problem moving tons of dirt with the front end loader when my brother was building his machine shed 15 years ago. Very smooth running 6 cylinder diesel engine, almost like a 466 IH only smaller at 242 cubic inches. They had some innovative ideas. The 10 speed selecto speed transmission for one. Also an accumulator for the hydraulic system.

(quoted from post at 15:41:06 07/23/17) I hope your not sending the 444 to the UK! We need more of them in the US!
No, the triple 4 is staying with no immediate plans to sell it. Although it will likely spend most of it's time parked in the shed.It was the main farm tractor when the previous owner farmed that half section.
