My outside unit quit working last night so today I put in a new capacitor and it seems to be working. This is a Trane unit. My question is doing have to reset this inside unit somewhere because the lights are still blinking like before. Thanks

If blinking as the compressor runs (rapid strobe like flashing) you will need to have a service call. If only on startup, and it has always done it, it might mean that the supply side wiring and circuit to the home are marginal for the load. If it was not doing it and has done it since just before the capacitor was replaced, The motor ?compressor may be failing. If the motor is unable to stay at running RPM, the start system will continually be called on and it will again fail. Jim

Assuming you tried a power down for 5 minutes or so.

If you have the owners manual it should show the codes, if not can probably find them online.

Thanks guys. Finally dug deep enough and found out I needed to jump 2 pins on a control board to clear codes. I guess they'll try anything to get that service call in

I think the reason companies like Trane and Carrier do it that way is so that you are forced to re-enter the size of your heat strips when you bring the system back online after disconnecting the power or having a power failure, because if the furnace's CPU were to mistakenly think that larger heat strips were connected than you actually have, it could be a disaster.

One of my neighboring towns has a remodeled hotel that's on the national registry. It was built in the early 1900s (I think) and was remodeled about a dozen years ago to include Trane air conditioners. About two weeks ago, one of their AC units went down and they called a local HVAC tech (who is NOT an authorized Trane dealer) out to troubleshoot it. He pinpointed it down to a circuit board, and told them to call Trane out to repair it, as Trane would not sell him this particular circuit board. The hotel management called Trane and they sent out a tech in a car to replace this board. The hotel got billed for a three hour trip from Kansas City to this hotel, the time needed to replace and reprogram this air conditioner, PLUS the three hour trip back to Kansas City.
They got a bill for $5500. Yes, that's fifty-five hundred dollars.

Ahhh yes the nothing stops a Trane theory. Lol they all break and some cost wildly more than others to repair. Trane is usually on the high end if things to repiar. They seem to have a knack for making thier oem stuff unavailable to regular guys or they are available but there will be some program issue so that the repiars cannot be successful without Trane assistance. Trane sales here in Northwest PA have definitely suffered because of this. Our nearest dealer is in Buffalo NY.
