Need help determining the type of tractor - FORD

I have an old Ford tractor. Seller said it was a 4600 but I don't think so. Located the nums on the side but don't match anything I can find on line. Anyone have an idea?

It looks in nice shape,a guy near here has a 3910
that resembles that quite a bit with the lower profile
tires and rounded fenders. I'm not sure if they made
a 3900 or not but if it's not a 4600 than maybe a
size smaller? We had a 4610 years ago and it had
bigger square fenders but they were available both
ways far as I know.

front axle makes it a x500 or heavy industrial tractor.. the sheet metal hood and front end make it a 1965 to aug of 68 tractor... the serial number also says its an early 3500 or 4500 tractor...

just above the c15xxxx serial number is a model number.. I can see part of it.. if the number starts with a 4xxxxxx its a 4500,, if it starts with a 3xxxxx, its a 3500.. then above that number is the date code.

IN the picture, it appears the model number starts with a 45, then I suspect its a 4500... which is a derivative of the 4000 tractor series made from 1965 to 1975...

ok, I see the reduction axles,, its a 4500,, made in 1966, nov 4th,, usa factory.

Thanks so much. I guess the guy who sold it was almost right. That helps a lot when buying parts. Just replaced the dual fuel filter it has so now I can check on other stuff. Thanks again

So one last question. Recently when I drive her I am losing power. Rev up to like 20 on speedometer in idle and drive around but lose power down to about 8. Shut it off wait and back to 15-16 and rev up to 20 and the same thing. I changed the dual fuel filters and they were awful, see pic so figure either need to drain and clean gas tank or maybe it's a air filtration issue, not sure but fuel filter replacements didn't do it. I ordered a new air module in the front. It is the old oil pan air intake cylinder and maybe a new one will do it but if not, focusing back on fuel lines and gas tank. Any ideas?

Those filters sure look scary....hope the pump does not look like that or there may
be big $$$. Ben

Its looking more and more like gunk at the bottom of the gas tank may be the issue. May just pick up a new tank and install it rather than try to clean out the old one. My guess is driving it around and bouncing all over loosened up sediment and is causing it to restrict diesel flow. Which is also why the filters may be so dirty. I'm gonna try to replace that first and see what happens.

Going to disagree with Bill a little bit. I would say it's a 4400 since it has the soft nose shell vs the heavy plate the 4500 would have.
Otherwise... it's 66 consistent with it's hood and hydraulic pump and what appears to be a 4 speed transmission unless I'm just missing the
second lever in the pic?

Hold off on the air cleaner for now....

Those fuel filters are filthy. I'd pull them off again and while you've got them off check for a good strong steady flow coming from the
tank. If you don't have that you'll have the remove the tank drain and clean it. If you've got a full tank of fuel, stick a shop vac
loosely in the filler neck (but not in the fuel) and turn it on. It will hold the fuel up while you remove the shutoff at the bottom and
clean it.
ALso, if you are using wix filters... there is a trick to them, which I forget... but I think you leave out one of the quad rings or
something. Personally I'd heave them and get FleetGuard filters for it.

It's also not impossible for the air cleaner to plug with bugs and debris.... but when that happens you will see the engine making piles of
black smoke and soot. If there's no soot I would suspect a fuel supply issue.
The air cleaner can also be cleaned by dousing it in a bucket of diesel fuel and blowing air backwards through it to clean it...

It is a 4 speed transmission. 2 forward and 2 rev then switch to high and 2 more forward 2 more rev. So actually 8.

Not a 4500. 4500 have swept back front axle that one is strait like 4000 so Im gonna say 4400 1/1/65-mid68. Has lovered hood.

It's definately a 4400.
Side hyd pump tells us it has transmission
PTO. Rod, it sounds like a 6X4 to me.
I have to wonder about the comment about a
gas tank - since it's obviously a diesel...

I have had good luck cleaning nasty tanks by siphoning the crud out with a 5/8 lift tube transfer siphon.

You might be right... I thought we had established some time back that there was also a 4x4 manual reversing transmission? Or was that just someone who was confused about the shift pattern of the 6x4? Seems to me it existed in the early models. This tractor would fit the time frame.
