Very very sad story in the East coast in Canada yesterday. A 7 yr old girl was hiding in long grass while someone was using a non conditioning type disk mower. The operator say the girl along the edge of the field early on but than she disappeared so he naturally assumed she had left. Somehow along the way she didn't move when the tractor was coming and she was in a spot the operator wasn't able to see her. Story is she lost a leg than passed away sometime after that. I can't imagine how the family and operator would be feeling after that ,unbelievably tragic. Way too many deaths you read about on here from farm accidents.

Yes really a sad story.

That happens at times here within the Amish community....can't comprehend how the family feels, so sad. Ben

Because of modern communication technology we hear so much of death. I fear the frequency is affecting our minds. 70 years ago death due to such tragic accidents was heard much less often. Just very sad

I dunno how a girl hiding in a field and being mowed over is a farm "accident"?

A horrible TRAGEDY, yes, but not "a farm accident".

Just say'in.

After reading this post yesterday I had to turn away for a day before I could respond. I can't imagine how horrible this is for the family, especially the one running the tractor. The family has a long, long road of recovery ahead of them if they can recover. I hope the little girl didn't suffer pain before she passed.

This is the worst type of incident that can happen in farming. When we hear of an adult flipping a tractor or getting caught on a pto shaft, it is hard enough to stomach when we put ourselves in their place thinking it could have been us. But when it involves someone else, particularly a child just out being a child and meeting with such a terrible end, it effects us more and it rightfully should.
