Person died from results of accident a couple weeks ago

A couple weeks ago I posted about a guy that had a tractor roll on him. He lost an arm and broke all his ribs and several other bones in his body. Sorry to say he passed away this past week end. Believe it or not, he was mowing his yard. I haven't found out what tractor he was operating but I do know most of us take a lot of chances with the little mowers or tractors. We operate the big tractors and never give a thought that a small one will kill us. Cecil was 69 years old and on the local fire department and was a member of the VFW. (Viet Nam). My thoughts and prayers are for his family during this time of sorrow. I would have posted sooner but I had surgery this past Monday and haven't been on the puter till now.

Sorry to hear of this. Hard to figure as each situation is different but a few simple and never deviated from protocol would prevent most if not all these accidents. Some things are accidental or unseen hazards, but others are decisions made, bad ones that kill or severely injure.

Local guy got ran over by his 4010 when he started it with a screwdriver while it was in gear. He was lucky that a friend came looking for him when he did not show up to help him that morning. The tractor was found running and had hit an old house, spun down till it bottomed out. He was in bad shape but is home now.

Sorry to hear that. My condolences go out to his family. This summer I have decided not to mow the road ditches. I usually mow a mile and a half of ditches along the mile I live on just to make it look pretty but I'm becoming more cautious with age. Years ago I helped get a severely injured man out from under an overturned tractor in this same ditch I have been mowing. He had a crushed chest and a bunch of broken ribs. He passed away the next day. The memories of that incident are coming back now. He was about the age I am now.

Terrible when someone goes like that, but it's good to post this when it happens. I know for sure my tractor is dangerous as he--,almost no safety features, big loader, lots of torque and just can't be stopped if I accidentally fall off. It makes me approach it with more respect when I hear of things like this. You can't take safety for granted--same for the small tractors as you mentioned. Sorry for the loss, my thoughts are with his family.

At age 70 I have come to believe that aging seems to be a factor in these accidents, we tend to prove that we still have the strength and stagmia of youth to get the job done while our sensory abilities may be diminished. The ability of sight, depth perception, hearing, thought processes and focus seems to slowly decrease as we age.

I went over backwards with a Sears LT 10 lawn tractor with the mower deck running. I had stopped while going up a hill in the back yard then started again. I still have to mow that hill but I go down hill now. I was able to roll to the side, I didn't get hurt but it sure scared me thinking about the mower blades spinning. that stuff happens fast.

I have had a few close calls over the years, it happens so quick......
My condolences offered to the family.

Yes it can happen quickly. That is another reason I have preached on this site to load your mower wheels with some type of fluid. Lowers the center of gravity by quite a bit. Makes your machine much more stable.

I saw a guy last week who was mowing on the right a way,he had to be in his late 70s and it looked like he was having trouble staying on the seat. Nothing on the news, but there is a time to have someone else do the mowing.

Iam seventy years and have been away from the farm for ten years. Too many close calls. I got the farm at forty seven years. I fell out of a tree with a running chain-saw and had some other close calls with the tractor mower. After the farm house fire when I went back in to rescue our cats and got stuck in there, I didn't go back after rebuilding. I do miss operating my two Fords.
