The wife just added up the numbers, rrc 330u being the last poster..We came up with 356 posts,21,337 years total;;which averaged to////59.935 years,,,,by our calculations, that would make the average Tractor Talk age to be 59.935 years old.

With that average age the unfortunate thing is with all that generational age and knowledge of the antique tractors the information provided on sites like these will slowly slip away. I have had every single question I have ask answered accurately most times in minutes. Thanks for taking the time top figure that up. Great post.

Larry, Not to rain on your parade, but the average age of the YTers that RESPONDED was about 60. I suspect (although I have no data to back this up) is that the average is a little older than 60, as younger members are more likely to respond than older members.

Sorry, you can't do much with us old statisticians. LOL

Larry

So it goes not many Model T mechanics around these days,or people that can harness a work horse or people that know how to properly use an axe to cut down a tree etc etc.

That is the beauty of this website. All the questions that have been asked and answered over and over are all in the archives, and as long as this website thrives so does the knowledge. Us younger (age 32) folks can appreciate everyone for helping even when they are no longer with us. This website is a living memorial to all the great people willing to help on tractor topics.

The results don't surprise me at all as I knew before Larry's poll that we're mostly a bunch of old farts here with plenty of extra time on our hands.

Well, I'm not admitting to my family, that it turns out... I'm below average after all. LOL

Tell Mrs. Corner thanks for figuring it up.

I guessed 64 so not too far off, Looks like I have 13 years on the average so glad to see the figure anyway was a good post.. Thanks lots of knowledge on here for sure. Over the years we have beat the BEST OIL, BEST PICKUP, BEST TRACTOR, And Geroge and his batteries to death but sure has been fun.

I thought at 85 I would be the oldest but I remember seeing an 88. Take us out of the mix would definitely change the statistics

Unless the spread sheet had a function for listing every person's age from youngest to oldest, and then finding the mid-point, that'd be a lot of work. In this case, of what value would the median be? The mean I can see being interesting, the median value leaves me scratching my head a bit.

With a data set of reasonably similar and reasonably well-distributed values the mean and the median values will be close together. On the other hand, if we were to all list our net worth and have one guy like Bill Gates tossed into the mix then the mean and median values would be very different.

rla,

Naw, I 'fessed up to my real age... 53.

It's just that I want to THINK I'm 39...
cuz I just don't see HOW I can really be this old. LOL

Larry Thank you and your wife for all the work.
I thought it would be interesting to see how many folks were in each age group and this is what I discovered as best I could.

Less than 30 - 12
30's - 29
40's - 29
50's - 83
60's - 128
70's - 79
80's - 11

From those numbers the median is in the 60's, towards the middle at the 65th lowest of those 128 responses.

I was very surprised that the average age jumped by two years from 57 to 59, in only two years.
