Just plane hot

I pulled out of the gas compressor station this afternoon, it was 102 and dew point in the low 80s. We had to stop testing engines, just too hot for turbo's to push enough air, engines will run rich and detonate, will resume in morning.

Are your turbos that your working with: turbochargers on on reciprocating engines; or gas turbine engines (turbo-machinery)? Is "plane" a hint, LOL?

It's definitely hotter than normal, but not record breaking yet or approaching tropical conditions. I'm a bit surprised your customer's requirements (specifications) don't require a wider range of operating conditions or allow continued operation at reduced power levels, but I totally understand that your deliverables must to be limited to whatever is written in the Purchase Order.

Today's weather could be repeated in the future. Is this an opportunity to sell a P.O. amendment to expand the operating limits of the compressors or don't you want to go there?

(quoted from post at 03:59:19 07/21/17) the ones I am working on are 2000 HP natural gas, turbo charged.

Care to tell us what this motor is being used for? Some kind of pump is my guess.

There are no throttle plates in these, will not run without turbo, fuel is put in for power and turbo maintains AFR.

Many years I had with the Clarks 9000 HP(Dresser Rand),Ingersoll Rand (KVS 2000 HP,KVH 5000 HP,KVR.SVG 600 HP.PSVG)and the Nordberg's.
The Ambient North of the Washington Border along the Thompson River in Canada, always broke 100 F daily ..Mid July...August 20 th.We had to cool both the Turbos as well as the Main Engines Oil Heat Exchanger with Raw River water, as well as the Intercoolers on all Turbos" (Closed loop Exchanger design so as OIL NEVER entered the River through a faulty Exchanger....tube or header leak.
In May of 2003, the Reciprocating UNITS were shut down and TWO LM 2500 General Electric (CF6-8) were placed on line.
I was the last Power Engineer to be Licenced to do Major Repairs and Hourly Bore scoping of both the Reciprocating Units as well as the Gas Turbines:
Retired 40 Years with Major Natural Gas Company:
When I Retired several of the Clark Engines were sold and sent to the USA.
I have a Flywheel from a Two Stroke Clark...Weight 12,000 lbs! Someday to be erected at my driveway.

Our actual temperatures was 97 yesterday and the heat index was 116. Most people complain about the humidity and don't consider the dew point. I haven't seen it in the 80's in a long time. The dew point was 78 yesterday, according to the local weather guy.
