Silica sand. Since it is fully enclosed in a cabinet, with a dust collector, there is no danger of respiratory damage. And it is cheap.

What the others have said, for general rust paint I use black beauty.
I can dump mine in a matter of min's and swap back and fourth.
It came with glass beads they did not stay in it long :wink: I let a guy blast mixer blades in mine for keebler cookie factory he gave me 5/6 big bag's of glass beads a lifetime supply.

Glass beads but I take as much rust as I can off with a wire wheel first.

Black beauty from Tractor Supply, cheap and works great. They carry two different grades I use the fine for general paint prep and rust removal.
