This is actually tractor related...I have a very good friend who has a stone masonry
business,Many of you may have seen pictures of some of the jobs he did, that I was helping him.He
has had so much trouble over the years getting help.I Have worked with him many times,,on
weekends,or when my work was slow, etc. My friend has a field in front of his house,,not real
big, maybe 5 acres or so.About 3 or 4 years ago,a young man 20 years old stopped in my friends
driveway with an old pickup with a homemade flatbed. He introduced himself, and said he had been
working at a dairy farm. The farm stopped farming. The young man said he liked farming,,so he was
going around the neighborhood, getting small patches of hay and baling them. His grandfather used to
farm,so he gave the boy what old equipment he had. The boy got it all working and was giving it a
shot.He said to my friend,I cant pay much for your field, but I will promise to keep it clean. My
friend used to brush hog the field now and then,so he said to the boy,,you don't have to pay
anything,,go for it. Then my friend said to him,,,what else are you going to do for a living? The
young man said, I don't really know,I Just got done at the dairy farm, still kind of thinking .My
friend said,I Have a masonry business,how about working for me?The young man said,I would,but,I
have gotten lots of patches of hay to do all around the neighborhood.I wouldn't want to
inconvenience you at hay season and I really want to try to bale all the small patches and sell
the hay. My friend thought,,and said to him,,,how about we start really early on you hay days, then
you can leave early,And if you need a day now and then during the season,,take it.The young man took
the job.I have worked with him many times on some of the jobs with my friend. The young man is
polite,and a hard worker,He runs the skid steer,and mixes cement,haul stone ,etc,,ect,,.When hes
caught up,,you dont even ask him,,he will ask how to help pont up,and will lay stone too. Now
,around 4 years later,he still works for my friend. In the summer they start really early, then the
boy does hay.Comes to work early the next day,,ready to go.My friend calls me almost everyday to
see how I am.I asked him how the young man is doing,He is getting good at laying stone, besides
mixing etc,,,and has baled over 2000 bales of hay from all the little patches.
