Ill be 62 Oct 6,,so it was time to decide if its time to sign for Social Security,,the wife did it online,,Im signed up. The office is about 1/4 mile from our house.I did take the paper they sent me,,and go in person ,The waiting room was chock full,,very crowded with younger people, little kids running around, etc. Im not supposed to be in crowded areas, with the treatment my immune system is weak.I sat there a while,,took my ticket to the guard, and told him I would come back another time.He was about my age,,saw me with the bald head and cap,and gauze on my left arm,,and said,,its easy to do online,,wrote down the exact thing to type in,and handed it to me.The wife did it and it was easy.

Enjoy every dime of it Larry. I could get it,but thank God I don't need it yet. Don't think for a minute that that realization ever escapes me. Between you and Dick2,you keep my priorities and gratitude where they should be.

I decided that for my situation I might as well start in as soon as possible. So I did it all on line back in the winter. It apparently worked, as the first deposit showed up late June.

There's been two deputies(kind of casually) at the entrance to the county office building, as well as one on the social services floor, for a long time. Now you will have to check/sign in with the deputies up front before going anywhere in the building.

Yes,,and I hope I don't whine too much,,but if anything could come from this,,is for everyone to realize,,don't take anything for granted. I think back,,how good I had it,,great wife and family and doing things enjoyed.Words cant describe how quick things change.Im gona be ok,,just want everyone to enjoy good health, dont argue over silly stuff, give your wifes or friends hugs ,and if you are healthy,, you should be happy! I hope this types out right,I Know what im trying to say,,but its kind of hard to express it in typing///

I know exactly what you're saying Larry. The guy who was working on the sheet metal on my 500 found out he has sarcoma in his liver, and that's one that's fatal. He's still plugging away trying to finish the last few cars he was fixing for the owners, but said when they're done,he's locking the doors and going fishing. I'm not waiting until then. We're headed out in two weeks for the 127 Yard Sale, then going to Tennessee later in August to watch the total solar eclipse with Lee Little and his wife.
There's no secret to living your life. If you want to do things like that, just do it. Today is some day too.

It's like when I started working out every day. I was at the point where I either had to,or I'd be so bad that all I could do was wish I was still in good enough shape to do it. The wife and I both have our health and we're taking advantage of it. You can't make that, but you can time to do things. All you have to do is want to.

I read all your posts, and love all your pictures,,you definitely seem to be enjoying life!!,,continue,,and keep posting!Best of luck to you and your family!!

Good for you Larry , I am sure that you have paid in your share. My wife is 21 months away from being eligible , and I was teasing her that , that didn't sound very far away. While I would have to still wait 39 months. 39 months sounds so far out , hardly even worth thinking about . She just smiled , pinched my cheek , and called me a baby .

If you ever have to go to their office again get there 45-30 minutes before the doors open and be up front in line. You can do it on line but at the office they told me things about SS that the online site didn,t tell you. When wife went to go on SS the online site said she would only get $80.00 a month but by going to SS office she ended up getting $800.00 a month based on what I paid in.

I signed up early my self. I was told If I wait longer I could possibly get a little more. But like the saying goes: A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush. Like your experience when I applied the room was full of younger people with kids, and a few older people. I was wondering what the younger people were in there for. Maybe a hand out of some kind. Stan

I just signed up myself at 62. First payment will be in a few weeks. I did it on line as I didn't want to stand in a line. Was quick and easy.

They younger people in there are trying to get disability. Guess they haven't been watching the news about the fraud that's been going on there and the fact that they are trying to clean that up. Going to be a lot harder for people to collect.

The guards went in after 9/11 and the Homeland Security Act was passed. It provided funding to guard all federal offices and buildings.

I was in a large city yesterday and saw several police cars I've never seen before. They were blue and white and said Federal Protective Police. I thought, what is that so I looked it up on Google and it's Homeland Security.. No telling how many of these they have in all large cities. So now besides the FBI we also have the Federal Protective Police.

Go for it, Larry. You've earned it.

I went in to the SS office a couple of times- I don't have problems with crowds, but I HATE TO WAIT! So I did everything online. Worked out fine- the money falls from the sky into my account on the 19th of every month. Hey, today's the 19th! Woohoo!

It took me about 30 minutes to sign up on line four years ago. Everything has gone good and everything happen as they said it would. I was dealing with a bout of cancer at the time so I figured I might as well draw as soon as I was eligible. Good luck with your treatments and I can testify that cancer is beatable.

You just answered your own question. The tattoos are her disability. They prevent her from getting a job.

You done good Larry, I made the same choice wayyyyyyy back when I turned 62 and so did my first wife but others chose different and to each their own and I'm happy for them.

Get well n stay well now HEAR ME

I worked for Social Security 24 years and we had guards at least 15 years ago; I retired in 2005 so don't ask any technical questions as I have forgotten all I knew back then and things are constantly changing.

(quoted from post at 03:17:03 07/20/17) I would say more the pee test is stopping her!

I used to think that would have been funny.....until last year. A high school friend works as the human resource manager for a large construction company. He claims that last spring they had a group of about 50 new hires in for an orientation prior to actually starting. When he said they had to pass a drug screen before actually reporting to work that all but 2 got up and walked out. Not so funny anymore as I thing about 48 more folks waiting in the welfare line.

yup, I signed up as well (starting next month at 67) but am still working until we sell our house (on the market now). Wife retired July 7th, our 44th anniversary. She's been working (and raising our 3 kids) all those years so I guess she's earned it. She sleeps in, reads her books, rides our horse, smiles a lot, says she doesn't miss work one bit. It seems to agree with her and as they say: "Happy wife, happy life". I'll let you know I handle it. I kinda feel like Randy: keep working and drop dead mowing grass, chopping wood, whatever.
