my GOOF Yesterday

I found a gallon of 303 hydro oil that was left and forgotten under a hay wagon for too long , water/condesation had
infiltrated , i noticed after i put this in the Yanmar that it slowed the hydraulix .. so i quit using it ,.. it really had no
seperation so i assumed it was just infiltrated thru the cap ,, The Infiltration was probably Algae ,. anyeway ,since this
modern gas is SO Dry, i ASSUNMED the extra lube would help the gasser tractors , i poured the 303 in my 730 Case Gassr,. , it
was nearly 2/3 full , , i didnt get around , the field before it was starving for gas ,,. blowed out the line ,, yucky sea
anemene algae stuff floating in the sedimet bulb , ,poured a qt of seafoam in there ,, did seem to help, after 2 stops and
more of that algae , i opted to add the yellow heet ,. still not much improvement ,, that algae would stop the valve on the
sedimt bulb ,,. red heet seemed to make little difference ,,.,.but at least it was not stalling for 10 minutes or more while i
was spraying ,,.. yes ...mite have been as well off to go get new gas and pull that shyt out of there,. but we was gonna get
rain at sunset i wanted to get the cukleburs knokt down ,.. hindsite says that was the rite dicision ....got the sprayin done a
couple hours before sunset...

Yep the right decision to keep on spraying. The wrong decision to add it to the tractor fuel tank, knowing it was contaminated. You'll probably fight that battle for a while longer, now that you made a well tractor sick. live and learn. I have some cooking oil left over from deep fat frying a turkey at Thanksgiving. I have read where people add it to their diesel fuel tanks and barrels. Not me, the fuel I use works just fine, I'm not going to reformulate for the dollars it would SAVE/COST me. gobble

Had a friend that had an older diesel car. He would make rounds of local restaurants getting their old cooking oil. His auto exhaust smelled like french fries. Never had any significant issues. Drove about 80-90 miles a day to work and back.

I have found that I often shot myself in the foot trying to "save" a little money. I am usually better off not doing these type of things.

Save a little money or save a little time. A folding cylinder on the planter was leaking more than a drip drip and dad was frustrated given the lateness of spring planting as to fixing it then and there. I told him that was cheaper than waiting until it got to a seep and estimating how fast it would take down the fluid level in the 4250 powershift. The seal replacement counting gas to go get was maybe 50 bucks versus well over 10K if the tractor had been run low on fluid for too long?

I filtered some cooking oil one time and used it in my backhoe. It smelled like french fries cooking. It ran just as well as far as I could tell. Only problem was, I couldn't get any work done. I kept having to stop and go buy hamburgers and French fries.
They say it won't work in the winter. It gells at a much higher temperature.

So True ,about shootin in the foot ,,. Lately I have been foolin with Used rubber ,.they wear longer because the rubber is harder ,BUT , it bit me back , The most costly , was the double tire change on the 430 Case yesterday ,,. i had a flat on a 13-6x28 ,,. tire had a bad storage dryrot split , plenty of tread ,,. , had 2 more ,. chose the best of the 2 but it had a ragged bead that i and the tire guy judged to be ok , paid 204 bux to get it put on , sprayed one field and run a couple rounds on another , heard a air swish ,.. the new repair of a used tire went bad ,, one broken durn wire in the bead , took out the new tube too , called the guy back,.,,. had him put on another used 14-9 rather than try another one of the bad 13-6.. i had another 14-9 for the other side , but we did not have time or a 2nd good tube maybesome would say i should a bought a new tire . a new tire depending on quality costs 375 +tube ,, the best a little south of 500, b ut i just dont have much faith in these new tires . trouble is they wear down badly and quikly. i puta new set on a DC Case ,, Made in Poland ,. the rubber is so cutup from rocks in the field and such i guess,,. the last set of new tires i bought went on a 4020 deere , the wore down from road travel i guess, just literally melted down ,.. i have decent tires on a 511b Case ,., they are original ,. and that rubber is hard ,, that ol , tractor will make a dozen trips this year to Dads Place ,and that rubber dont melt down if i HAVE TO TRAVEL in the heat of the Day ,.. Just seem to be beating myself up a lot lately ,for decisions i make that dont pan out that have worked well in the past

My brothers were planting with a Kinze and a 1086 Farmall. They had a leaky cylinder and ran the transmission low on oil. They caused transmission damage and then switched to a different tractor. Dad took the leaky cylinder off after they went home that night. Tried to protect them from them selves. Losing a day of planting time is a lot cheaper than rebuilding a transmission. I don"t remember what it damaged, or it it was his tractor or theirs.
