radiator repair cost

I need to get a radiator repaired for a 1966 Minneapolis Moline U302 super. It looks good except for a small hole where apparently something broke and went through the back side. It was like that when I bought it 6 or 7 years ago but is just now starting to leak. Was considering a stop leak product but its a fairly fresh motor and I don't want any problems out of it. Does anyone have an approximate cost of repair. I'm in 30 miles from Louisville Kentucky if that makes a difference. Thanks

Re core in my area is usually $700-$800. This is Minnesota. Even though it doesn't look that bad, it probably needs a core, at least that's my experience.

My radiator in my JD 450B dozer had a small leak and I took it to a radiator shop a friend recommended. They said it was getting thin but patched it, said there was no guarantee.....that is so long ago I don't remember what they charged, maybe $100. Must be 20 years ago and it is still not leaking.

Just a little hole? Clean the area find EXACTLY where it is leaking and dab a little JB Weld on it let it cure and you should be good. Word of caution the area needs to be clean, really clean do not us petroleum based products to do this use alcohol.

Keep in mind that radiators in old tractors often ran for years with plain water in the cooling system. This plain water could have been neutral pH, or it could have been acidic as are many municipal water supplies from surface water. If an old radiator had acid pH water circulating through it, it would have been uniformly eroded on the inside, getting thinner and thinner over the years. If external damage evidently caused the leak, repair is probably worthwhile. If there is no evidence of damage the metal is probably uniformly thin and repair of the leak will probably soon be followed by the appearance of another.

I might try that JB Weld route. I have a GMC General with big radiator that I knocked a little pin hole in trying to change the water pump without removing the radiator. It has a big oil clutch on the fan and it was more heavy than I thought and slipped-------- Did not think the spot was that bad until I filled it back up and has a seep.

Prices will be all over the place.

The problem is that once they hot tank it, you have no idea how many pinholes will show up. I've taken radiators in to my local guy that did not leak at all on the tractor, but once hot tanked and cleaned, had 15 leaks! He really spoils me though...last radiator was cleaned, repaired and painted for under $50! That one had 7 leaks.
