Hi guys; Im asking your opinion on two tractors I have found that are for sale; one is a "Co-op", E3 , that is rough- seat bad; back tires good - front tire is not good and it doesn't run but it is all in tact; the second is a "Cockshutt 30 " , needs a rear rim - tires are good, motor is locked and needs to be pulled as clutch is locked up also - so he says. Tractor is straight and front tires are good- wide front-end. He says it is made for Gambles and -------? let me know your opinion please. Thanks.

both same tractor model, made by cockshutt, sold as cockshutt model 30, coop model E3, and farmcrest (gambles) model 30. I believe in Canada they were sold by a Canadian coop and badged as CCIL model 30 but may be wrong. serial number is in top of left frame rail about midway of engine. early ones were marked as 48-30-123456, with the first 2 digits being year. later ones were marked only 30-123456 but you can look up year on this site and several others

I own a Cockshutt 30, and a friend has a Coop E3. Same tractor. Gambles 30 also same. Has a 30 hp Buda motor. I also have my dad's 1950 Farmall H rebuilt and play with that also. I find driving the H much more convenient; steers easier, shifts easier, throttle lever more handy...just an easy tractor to handle compared to the Cockshutt. But the Cockshutt is still a nice tractor...engine runs smooth, 8 gear tranny. Parts are easy to get. People react to the Cockshutt a lot because most people have never heard of or seen one like it before, here in Wisconsin.
LA in WI

They are the same tractor. Both are Cockshutt 30's. Gambles hardware stores also sold the Chockshutt 30 as the Farmcrest 30.

You might need both to make one good tractor.

I will have to check....fore got to ask him. Guess both would be parade tractors? You all say they are the same tractor....ok...the single front wheel is an "orange tractor" and the wide front end is red and yellow. And the reason ? I believe they are both from the 40's but I will find out. Thanks!

Would be from late '40's through early '50's, I believe, at which point they changed to the "deluxe" models. We can home in on the years if you find the serial numbers. As someone said, it will probably take both to make one. I wouldn't give more than $500 for the pair. They are not particularly rare (Model 30, which both of these are, is by far the most common Cockshutt), and good running examples can be had in the $1,500 range.

He started with $2000 on the Cockshutt/wide front end - and I still have to pull motor and also make it run!

I bought my Cockshutt 35 (a far more rare tractor, and much more powerful than the 30) for 800 bucks, and drove it on the trailer.

I have a little advice for you: Before you intend to purchase these tractors and get them running, check on the price of the piston/rings/sleeve assembly for the Buda 4B153. Then the gasket set and then the connecting rod and main bearings. Yes, there are more expensive overhaul sets out there, but the price of these items might change your mind about tackling these tractors.

Banjo the Cockshutt 30 and its other labels are a highly sort after collector item and well respected. One at our local show was for sale $4000 (amature poor restoration in lack of better term.) Now are you mechanical inclined and want a project? As far as fixing or restoring you will probably have more in it than you could get. What I would do is buy both and make one sell a few parts to off set the cost. I would say rough figure $500 a piece. They are easy to work on parts can be had but remember it is not like a ford 8n you are not going to find pars on every corner. I am no Cockshutt expert but hope this helps.

Also remember wide front or single front wheel is a rarer option. The coop version or gambles a bit rarer At $2000 I would pass but in some areas they are very scarce and others more common. An old fellow once said the time to buy is when your looking at it!!!!

Thanks I will keep all this in mind; as both have set for 7 yrs(with a can over exhaust) who knows what I would get into- I can do the mechanic work. $500 each sounds reasonable - but I don't think he will go for it. We will see. Thanks.

I also "posted" on the Oliver-cockshutt-Coop forum if anyone can shed some light on my question- thanks!

The Cockshutt/Co-Op/Gambles 30 is a fine tractor. Live PTO, very smooth engine, plenty of power tot he ground for a 30hp rig. I like mine very much.

thank you - do you have a pic for me? What would you pay for one that doesn't run...needs a tire and rim?
