Anyone know anything about Ranch Rite drum mowers? Are they made in Asia/China. How about Galfre drum mower?

I have never heard of them. I looked one up on the net. From what I saw it wouldn't last long around here. One good rock or a tree stump between the cutters, and it would be over. May be good on clean ground. Just my opinion. Stan

The only real advantage of drum mowers is that they're cheap. And the ones you describe, proudly produced by the People's Republic of China, even cheaper. In addition to the obvious quality issues, they put the grass in much too tight of a swath, so you need a tedder to spread it out, or it will take forever to dry. You'd be much better off with a used disc mower, of a known brand (Kuhn, Taarup, New Holland, etc.). Or even an old sickle-type mower conditioner, which can be purchased at most auctions for about 8 cents.

its a dead ringer for the ccm drum mower I have except for the color. the ccm is supposed to be made in turkey I cut a bunch of hay with mine and a old 3000 ford I cant complain it will cut as fast you can sit in the seat

Been mowing hay with my deutz fahr drum mower for years. Does a good job. I only cut 15 acres. One nice thing about mine is no hydraulics required and I use a 40 horse tractor to mow with.

If you are talking about the Galfre 190 like I have it comes from Turkey. Nice machine, no problems with mine. I did install a hyd cylinder to
replace the far end rod so that I could not only lift it vertically, I could then tilt the outside end up in the air (like you see disc mowers
carried) for transport.

Blades run me $25 per hundred, two sided, tempered and coated steel. Being 2 sided, you can run them and when dull swap to the other
drum and run the other side of the blade. I run 6 per drum and before a cutting I take my hand grinder and tune them up...no need to put in
a new blade when the existing one just needs a tune up....just takes a few minutes and you get a superb cut. It rides on the ground and
has +/- ground variance capabilities.

I have the 1" spacer installed and on sudan-sorghum get about a 3" CONSISTENT stubble, unlike my JD 1209 swathers that who knows
what your stubble length will be.

So, are you going to take a discbine into a field full of stumps and rocks?

Didn't think so.

I have a MinosAgri 190. Dead ringer for the CCM model. Made in Turkey. Rather heavy unit. Well built. My only problem was that cover on belt pulley assembly was assembled to pulley and when belts stretched, they rubbed on the belts - damaged belts. Otherwise has been trouble free. Is hard on cuttre knives, due to many stones and mole hills in my fields. Get my blades for $9a set on sale from TSC. Where can you get them for $25 a hundred?

Am happy with mine. Cuts anything in my fields grow. Not a replacement for a bush hog.

Small Tractor Innovations in Caldwell Texas. I bought 200 from him when I bought my mower 7 ish maybe years ago at that price. I'm still working on my first box of 100 and I decided to add a second row of cutters for 6 per drum so I'm using them twice as fast as originally, but they just last and last the way I use them. Don't know what he sells them for now. His mowers are just a couple hundred more than the $3.7k (as I recall) I paid for mine some 7 ish years ago so he may be pretty constant on them too. They are from Turkey too from the mower mfgr.

I had that cover problem too when I first got mine. It too damaged my belts...burned the covering off the outside where it rubbed. Phil, owner of STI sent me replacements, in a heart beat, no charge. His business has really grown. No doubt, the way he treats his customers.

My cure was to cut the ends off the belt covers. The problem is that if you (whomever) get the belts too tight the adjusting pulley moves out too far and if the cover was adjusted before the belt tension you have the problem. I told him that. Don't know what cam of it. He ships!

Got my last supply of #98 cutters for my genuine CCM 190 mower from A&I dealer. Were pretty cheap. Bought 2 boxes. I can get the number if you need them.

By the way, going on about 5 years on the mower and am now having to replace the bearings in the disc that rides on the ground. Started rattling when cutting - one of the 3 bearings in there had turned to dust. Check those bearings - they are pre-lubed and not greasable. Bought complete sets of replacements for both disks for a bit over $100 bucks - shipped. Very reasonable.
