I.D. Ford Engine

Engine is in a 69 F600. Has the 5 bolt valve cover and 2 barrel carb. That leads to a 352 or a 360. Says Shelby Ford on the cover. Does the word Shelby give a clue to anything??

Fe series engine, could be a truck motor.....or a passenger car motor from the sound of what you have posted.....google FE Ford motors.

Definitely could be an fe motor. Would need casting numbers on block to identify. They made about 20 different variations of it between auto and truck models. 352, 360, 361, 390, 391, 406, 427, 428.

For a commercial medium duty truck I'd guess 361 or 391.

Most popular in F600s V8s was MD330 which is a FT. There is HD 330. The 361/391 are FTs. Shelby rocker covers makes it look COOL.

If it is a truck engine, 331, 361, 391 , which it most likely is, they are not interchangable with the car engines. Bell housing bolt patterns are different. Some parts are the same like valve covers.

I am pretty sure that the car and truck engines had the same bell housing bolt pattern. I had a friend that took a 391 and used a bushing to adapt a car distributor and put it in a 64 mercury car.

(quoted from post at 04:02:44 06/28/17) I am pretty sure that the car and truck engines had the same bell housing bolt pattern. I had a friend that took a 391 and used a bushing to adapt a car distributor and put it in a 64 mercury car.

I remember back in the 70s a friend of mine installed a factory rebuilt 391 in an LN800. He had worked on a few of these and he pointed out that the block is the same as the Ford passenger car. This one, like he said most of the truck engines, even had 352 stamped on it.
As I recall, what made the 361 and 391 truck engines unique was mostly the forged HD cranks, the sodium filled valves and the cam.The head may have also been different too but I'm not sure. Anyway, the block is the same and has the same bell housing pattern.

I'm pretty sure the bell housing bolt patterns are the same. I've seen NP435 transmissions pulled out of half ton pickups and bolted up to the engine in Ford F600s.
