i have a 8n with the pump that uses 2 arms to move the hydraulic control valve
there was a piece inside the spool that wasnt attached to anything does anyone know what this is for?

Post a picture of the whole pump assembly. Plus your other post then picture did not show up. The picture you have here does not show things real well
 
Ifn has 2 arms on lift cover ya don't got 8N its a 9N. That is control valve bore. It should have a Tee looking part with spring and valve looking piece with hairpin holding together
