farmall post hole auger?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any information on a post hole auger like this?

It is not a 3 point, but has brackets that
attach to the u-drawbar of farmall tractors.

I looked up the numbers on the gearbox
and didn't find anything.

Sorry, here it is.

Matthew, 73 years old here and I am telling you that is one of the most dangerous contraptions ever put on a tractor. If you use it please keep all others away. That open driveshaft will grab anything close. Over the years I cannot tell you how many accidents I have seen from those diggers. And yes that was what was sold for the old H & M s . It was better than digging by hand .

Hold on a second. Carefully clean it and paint it all very pretty. Then take it to tractor shows as an original. Don't use it the way it is with anyone around. NOW.... if you want to run it buy a new and modern drive shaft with saftey tubes. You might need a little machine work to fit things up at the digger end. Don't even think you can't get wrapped around a pto shaft. MHO It is a weird looking old monster.

I have one similar to yours that we used on the H. It was bolted stationary to the drawbar and the axle brackets. To raise the auger, it had a small hand cranked winch to raise it up. It has not Ben used in probably 40 years. Tommy

One day many years ago. I was in my office waiting for a first luetenent. I was to give him his annual aviator proficiancy evaluation. He showed up hours later all distraught. Turns out he was drinking his coffee and looking out his back deck and neighbor was digging post holes. Says it started wobbleing and put his hand out to steady the shaft and it caught his glove and wrapped his arm up before it tore it off. Fellow bled out in a few minutes. Very sad. 80 yrs old.

I have a 3 point I use from time to time rescued from weeds on the neighbors property. Shaft doesn't have guard and not worth the expense to make it right. I will never get out the tractor seat with the PTO engaged no matter what is on the back but this thing is so scary I'm doubly careful and think about every move I make.
