Are they worth the price?

A few years ago the Farm stores, discount stores, and building centers ALL had 4' flourescent hanging shop lights selling for $9.99. I bought a bunch of them, and then bought more because they worked SO good. Probably had as many as 20 all together. A few short years later, every single one of them is in a pile out behind. Bulbs burned out, but a new bulb wouldn't work either.

LED is the current fad, and everyone wants to get on board.

I got 2 of them a while back from Rural King's online site, don't remember the price. I am very pleased with them, they're very bright also light weight (don't know if that's good or bad). I think it was just last week a notice came that they have them on sale online for $19.99. I asked the Mrs. if we should buy some as Christmas presents, she thought the kids may not have a place to use them.

I don't remember, so go online. These are two LEDS in parallel.
Life 50,000 hrs and lumans are way more. Normal price around $35.

Yes! I have had real good luck with them even in the barn. Turn right on even in cold weather.

Just a few short years ago there were so many folks taking the position that you could have their incandescent bulbs when you pulled them from their cold, dead hands. I'm a big fan of LEDs and am phasing out the CFLs. I believe the only incandescent bulbs I have are in the fridge and the range hood. Drier too probably.

I just bought two 2x4 LED troffer fixtures (the ones that drop into a suspended ceiling) that have two 4 ft. LED lights in them, for my church for $65.00 each.

I bought some from Euri Lighting on line for about $10.00 each with free shipping if over $50.00. They work without a ballast, just follow the instructions with the lamps. They are bright and work very well. SO if you already have 4 foot or 8 foot fixtures these are the way to go. If you do not have the fixtures then maybe not. I just looked up and the price went down from when I bought mine. I am going to order 20 more tonight. If you visit my shop you better have shades. joe

Here's a 30w, 2500 lumens, 120V LED flood light for $18.50, and (2) units are $35.00:

Lots of other choices besides just the older style shop light designs. I got some LED rope light for under-counter use and it's awesome! I used double length to get the brightness I wanted, plus it has an inline dimmer switch that makes it like a really awesome night light.

Nice thing about LED's is they have a much longer life than other bulbs, plus they are instant on - a real plus when it's really dark. Also, they aren't affected by cold temps, like fluorescent is.

(quoted from post at 14:25:32 06/20/17) Just a few short years ago there were so many folks taking the position that you could have their incandescent bulbs when you pulled them from their cold, dead hands. My experience with LEDs is that they either burn out in less than a year, or they turn into strobe lights 2 days after installation. My experience with the CFLs is about the same, although I did find some CFL floodlights that are hanging in there pretty good.

Based on my hands-on experience, I will NOT be throwing out my incandescants.

rusty, normally I agree with you on most everything but now I beg to differ. I have replaced all bulbs in the house with LED and for the last 5 years nt a problem. Actual electric used dropped some but the life of the bulbs was what I was after. Good light also. I just remember that one of the first one quit after a few days so I took it back and the new one is still shining

what got me about that whole phasing out of incandecent bulbs was the government mandating it.
Telling us what to do because it was good for us.
At the time the only other option was the curly bulbs and I hate those things.
I do like the new led jobs and as the incandescent bulbs burn out they're getting replaced with led.
I say let the free market sort it out and quit being a nanny state. The people will adapt if they see there's an advantage to doing so.
