What about lube on the PTO shaft from the tractor. I replaced the PTO shaft and noticed the tractor shaft has a lot of wear. So much that, it needs to be replaced. What about greasing the tractor PTO shaft? Stan

I've always used axle grease. Then every so often, clean out the old gunked-up grease and replace with fresh. Dirt, grass and other will get in there and stick to the grease and will help accelerate the wear on the shaft.

I probably would have been better off using something like a chain lube, but.........

I don't grease the shaft, but I do grease the u joints with same grease I grease everything with. $1 tube rural king grease.

i use high temp tetra moly grease and find that in winter time i gets so stiff, i cant get the pto shaft off the tractor (spreader), unless i lube the shaft withwaste oil in the fall

I find that the shaft actually slides easier without grease. I have greased them before, but I think it is harder on the tractor pto bearings.

Always greased the shafts on everything when I would grease the rest of the machine with the same grease gun I used for the rest. Never seen a shaft wore but I have seen then stuck from no lube and rust.
