Thermostat gasket

Need a gasket for my thermostat on the 550 Oliver. Any reason why I couldn't just use something like Permatex type 2? Or do I need to make a gasket? Or is there a better idea?

You could use the automotive RTV (silicone), or make a gasket. If it isn't an unusual shape, might find a gasket at an old school auto supply.

(quoted from post at 18:09:22 05/24/17).........

Get some paper gasket material and make one, then coat both sides and the edges with No. 2 Permatex and assemble............no sweat, no strain. :)

Been using cereal box cardboard and a little permatex on both sides for 20 something years now. Just use the thermostat housing and a ball pein hammer to cut the shape.
