Hi Jon, in the next week or so I will be driving from Salt Lake City, UT to Point Huron MI.

Do you recommend going via I80 or I90 or some other route?

Anyone can chime in here.

Thanks for info

Easiest traveling and best services will be along I-80 for sure. 2 recomended stops would be for the worlds best steak you can stop on the east side of Wyoming, a few miles east of Cheyenne, there is a Sapp Brothers truck stop on the north side of I-80. On the east side of the truck stop there is a bar/supper club that will serve you the best $20.00 steak in the country in my estimation. They are not part of the truckstop, just next door. Well worth the stop. The truckstop restaraunt is not worth stopping at. Also just before you get into Chicago on I-80 at the 112 exit there is a TA truckstop that has a great restaraunt, make sure you save room for desert as the goodies counter is 20' long and full of bad for you stuff.

If you want more scenery and interesting places to stop I-90 has more of that across South Dakota. There is the black hills, corn palace, car museum amoung other things to see there. Getting rooms can be dicey along there tho, especially after Memorial day unless you have a reservation.

When you get to Mi don't take 94 through Det if you are coming that way. Step off 94 at I-69 to Port Huron through Lansing. Although I have gone through Michigan's upper peninsula just to avoid Chicago when heading West out of Mi. My experience has been to go through Chicago during the middle of the day or the middle of the night but that doesn't guarantee you won't be stop and go somewhere their.

The name of the restaurant jon is talking about by Sapp Bros is called T Joes if you want to gogle it. I believe one of the owners of it passed away recently.

Sounds like a beautiful trip to be taken on the backroads, if time would allow

Otherwise, get yourself an IPass or equivalent and take 80 to 69 as stated. There is no time when Chicago does not have traffic, but with Open Road Tolling and skirting the city as you will be, you should be able to zoom through. Road construction delays are unavoidable, but much of the lane closures are being done over night now.

if you aren't in a big hurry going across Nebraska take Hwy 2 out of Grand Island and follow it all the way up to Alliance and head back down to 80. Stop in Hyannis at Hyannis Cafe for the best steak you'll ever eat. I ordered a 12oz ribeye that must have been 20oz on my plate and so fresh and perfectly cooked.

If you have a sense of adventure turn south off hwy 2 just east of Lakeview. It'll take you through the Sand Hills lake country and Crescent Lake National wildlife refuge. You'll drive on gravel and single lane blacktop for a good while across some really phenomenal beautiful cattle country. Good chance you won't see another human for a couple hours.
