Done Planting...

Pretty slow around here today and I see Centash posted their planting progress so I thought I would post ours. Son planted all the crops this year-usually he plants the corn while I plant the beans and my wife runs the field cultivator but this year he wanted to wait on the beans for he got hit with sudden death in his beans last year, seed salesman said that they came out of the ground to slow?? He still plants the beans in 20 in. rows-this is the planter I built 15 years ago. Used to plant corn with it also but went back to 30 in. rows when fert. got to $1000/ton. It is a Deere 530 cart with 2 tool bars with 9 Maximerge 2 units on each one. Still pull it with the 4630-C-2 about 5.5 mi/hr. So he got done last Sunday and it seems it has been raining every day since. The 4630 is usually a lot cleaner but I was filling it with fuel and the auto-shutoff failed to work! Thanks----Tee

We've all been there with the fuel thing. Do you plant your corn at 5.5 mph also? Can you get good accuracy at that speed? I plant at 4 mph.

Interesting to see the similarities.....and differences in farming practices across the continent. Our farm is in SW Ontario, about 1 hour north of Port Huron Michigan. Where are you located? Ben

We run Kinze bean meters and Deere finger units. You figure we don't plant any more seed--we just turn the meter 2/3 as fast as if we were in 30 in. rows. Corn--when I had it I would plant a 5 mph, seem to work good.----Tee
