Soys are in....

Got the last of the soys in on Saturday. Cold, only about 45 in the morning, but warmed up to 70, still with a strong east wind. The planter I use is a double frame NI 4 row with interplant for beans giving me 7 15 inch rows. Planter has unit mount coulters with HD down pressure springs on each unit. I plant directly into old corn stubble , the left half of the picture is before planting, the right half after planting. Field is rolled when finished planting. The soil is quite variable across the field, from sandyloam to medium clay. I am happy with the seed placement this planter does, as seen in the pictures. Sometimes keeping it simple seems to work. Ben Sorry, about the sideways photos, we did get a nice shower overnight. With a bit of warmth, the beans should be off to a good start. B

...Ok, I gotta ask something here, and I apologize for going a little OT - to the best of my knowledge, we cannot 'Edit' our posts here, right? There's an option to do so, but don't think we can. So how did you know your pics would turn out sideways so as to apologize, unless your pics turn out sideways all the time? Have seen this several times before - just puzzles me.

I can see the post in the post preview ,but not sure how to edit from there,
besides correcting my spelling. Ben

Probably came up sideways in the preview, then you hit the back button and go back to "apologize".

Yeah, nothing better to do today than type on the tablet, bad head cold or allergies or something from sitting out in the cold and dust yesterday, nose running like a leaky hose. Must be all those John Deere exhaust fumes.....Ben hack hack...

I'm sitting here trying to make a different plan for the week. Wanted to plant silage corn this week, but the way the rain is training over me,I think I'll be hauling cattle tomorrow instead.

Do you ever have trouble with the units pushing stalks or dirt? The planter we run has every row farther back about 8 in. We have fought this for years. I was always going to make the arms the same length.---Tee

Row units are staggered about 15 inches, and the Coulter is set deep enough and is aggressive enough; I also try to plant between the old rows. The fertilizer openers are lifted up since I don't use them for soys, fertilizer is broadcast, but sometimes they will plow a bit with residue, especially in the lighter soil. Just gotta keep an eye on it. Ben

I could only finish up ploughing out some head lands this morning before the skies opened up again , and it has rain near all day long . Still have to plant another 25 acres of hay , and put the silage corn in . Not worried about the silage corn yet , but I would like to get done with dirt work and move on to hat. Still needs to stop raining for hay too.
