Long time follower, future first timer visitor to the Half Century of Progress Show in Rantoul. For those of you who have been there a time or two, can you share your insights and tips of where to stay, in the ins-and-outs of the show? Looking forward to going this year and being there a couple of days, but kind of excited to see the corn pickers and guys I know through the different corn picker forums and here. Thanks!!

You will do a lot of walking. I'd seriously suggest renting a golf cart or bringing a utv there. Last time I was there, two older guys brung a Kory miniture hay wagon and a Farmall Cub. They let my Brother and his Girlfriends Son and I ride on the hay wagon. It saved us. It was hot and a lot a walking til then. But enjoy the show.

Its kind of like Gazillions of Golf Carts running around where some old tractors show up lol. I have seen HUGE lines of carts waiting in a long line just to get in. Reason being they may be picking corn in one field, combining beans in another, horse farming in another, parade gearing up AND ALL CAN BE SO FARRRRRRRRRR APART by the time you got there it would be over. I am going to exhibit and will be dry camping in the RV on the show grounds (which helps) but you can bet I'm taking my golf cart as exhibits and parades and certain demonstrations may be far apart. I will arrive on Monday before it starts and stay until they kick me out.

John T summed it up BUT I have been there and walked the last 4/5 shows but I'm not getting any younger !!!!

Last winter there was a rumor that Big Roy-Versatile was coming in for the Show. Don't know if that is true. That would swell the crowd size considerably if that is true. Would estimate 75% of crowd was in a golf cart or UTV at last show would expect even more will be this year.

It is too much to walk... I stay In Champagne, it's about 12 miles south, and an easy drive, a 4 day show but it's dies down on Sunday early, to me it is "Man Heaven"..a.lot to see that is for sure, I am taking my 2 John Deere 60's and some tillage equipment.

If you happen to walk past my RV you and SWiMBO are welcome to cold barley soda pops or that famous CHEK soda Gary's bride just loves, but I wont have any ribs, sorry, you have to go to Garys for that lol

Like you I've walked it every time that I've been there..I'm very fortunate to be in good health so that I can do it when most cant.....Each time in 9 hours I was able to see it all...I dont own a golf cart and I'm too tight to rent one...So, if you see an old guy walking fast or running between events it will be me..Its usually a pretty good distance between where they shell corn and combine beans..

1206SWMO. The memories. We had a MM uniharvester. Boy how well I remember that machine. Thanks for the pic. Richard

If you are going to see the corn pickers, GET THERE EARLY ! they have a lot of pickers show up and they go through the days allotment of acreage fast .

The first time we walked. The wife said next time we are riding, so the last two we have used the side by side. We stay in Champaign. There is a lot to see.

1206SWMO, that picture of the mini mo is Kenny Knight. You missed the GPS antenna he had on it last time but he didn't get the yield monitor hooked up yet. Maybe this year but steering is not automated yet either.

Big Roy was talked about but have not heard anything lately. Farm Progress was dragging their feet in helping with the freight bill getting the tractor here.

Since the big guy is no longer with us, two others have stepped up to take his place. Darius was like a lot of guys and kept stuff in his head. So there were a lot of voids in the continuality of something this size. It still will be one of the best shows around and thanks to all of those that spend their time and effort to make it happen.
