Do any of you grow this stuff? Can it be dried down enough to square bale or does it lose its nutrients when doing so? Thanks

In my neighborhood, not very easily. If cut when at its peak, it takes a lot of sun to dry, and here in May that can be a challenge. It is bad enough to get it dry enough to chop, let alone bale. If you were somewhere with a more arid climate than me (WI) it can probably be done.

We were running low on hay last month so the boss bought thirty eight round bales of the stuff to feed the cows. They wouldn't hardly eat it.

The bigger you let it get the better it will dry, but it will not be any good for feed. Need it cut just before heading for feed, but then will not dry down MOST years for dry bales. Guys who have it silage bale it or chop it.

We fed some year old Triticale to calves this spring, and they loved it. The stuff we fed was at least 3/8 of an inch in diameter. Round baled, they said it laid there for 3 weeks before it got dry enough to bale.
