air condition

4430 JD ac puts out cool air but not cold air, new compresser never shuts off, around 3# of R134...best I got is outside air was 72 and ac air at vent was 58 can anybody help on what to look for?

What are the high/low pressure readings? Are evaporator/condenser & radiator very clean? If heater hose has no manual shut off valve then put vice grips on hose to possibly stop hot coolant from entering heater core.

How much gas is it supposed to hold? If the charge is ok then start looking at the rest coils clean evaporator and condenser and also as another post asked what about the hot water. That can kill ac effect pretty easy.

X2 check coil by radiator first the other second. Is there movable plate for heat and cold on that system , maybe not switching to cooling. Had that on a JD chopper.

could be wrong but 40 low side 300 high side, all rad are clean in cab with air, out front with power washer may have a bad seal at condencer, fan pullin air around it insted of through it, ordered a new one

What happened to the original compressor?

Did it lock up, shed metal?

Was the system flushed, new receiver dryer, new orifice tube?

When I was having a lot of trouble with the AC on a Ford it finally turned out to be a plugged receiver-dryer.

40 on the low side seems high... Is it over charged? Should get near a 40 degree drop over ambient coming out of the discharge vent.

You need to get stuff out of the way so you can see straight thru the condenser.

Does this look clean, I blew it out made a tool to get to it all with compressed air.

Same condenser after I removed the grill assy and battery. You could not see the obstruction unless you were looking straight thru it.

I like to put an independent valve to shut the heater water off,,the cab valve can let a lot of hot water past to make the AC work harder..

Ditto on installing a manual engine coolant shut off valve. I had to install one of those manual shut off valves on my 4255 many yrs back.

Thank You TX Jim and Tim S ,
I need to put a shut off valve on my heater hose. Do you guys know the inside dia of a heater hose and where to get a valve. My tractor is a JD 4720.

Thanks again,
littlepint

(quoted from post at 03:58:21 05/17/17) Hobo -- Quite an impressive photo demonstration!

Blow up the first one the junk was recessed deep into the fins. It did not come out EZ either the tractor had 180 hr. on it.

It was a Cool day low side 45/50 high side 250. Should have been Low side 28 high side 150. On a warm day you should see 30/190 if.

steve@advance,clutch on old compressor, system flushed and vacumed down, new dryer, used recovered 134a back in....new compressor is to be less freon, cycle less, and a lot cooler ....want my old one back

I just worked on the same tractor at the dealership last week. With R 134A, holds 3.6lbs of Freon. I have no idea what compressor you have or the tractor I worked on. My vent temp was 47F after fixing power to the clutch problem. The heater does have a ball valve already installed from factory. Its cable operated to close off the flow of coolant. Before looking into that, do what was suggested. Crimped off a coolant line. Easy way, needle nose vise grips. But put some sockets on the ends of the grips as without will cut the heater hose. Good luck.

You're correct about JD cab tractors having a cut-off valve for water heater. According to JD parts the 30-55 series cab tractors all utilize the same valve which leaked internally on my 4255 and I've witnessed leak internally on several other models. All models mentioned valves(key 6) are not cable operated.
