Hi. I have a 1967 John Deere 4020 Diesel. I pulled my larger plow, an IH 720 4-18 behind it in the thick clay soils around central indiana last fall. And it was a lot for that tractor. Some of my friends say I should get a 4-16 plow for it. I am looking at these IH plows: 710,720, and a case IH 7500 vari adjust plow. The vari adjust plow can be changed from 14" to 18". Some say that vari plow was about the best I ever made. Besides cost differences. I can't decide which plow to get for the 4020. I know that 4-18 was a heavy load for that 4020. I could only run in 3rd gear with a synchro transmission. I like the vari plow because it looks in the best shape I've seen in a lot of plows I have looked at recently. And it looks beefy and will last beyond my years. I would think the vari plow adjusted to 4-16 would pull the same as the other cause it's biting the same width of path each time. The other 4-16 regular plows I've looked at all look tired and wore out. We dont have a lot of rocks around here so a toggle trip is ok with me to vs spring trip.
