Opinions about Micro guard filters

I use delco PF57 filter on my 20 hp Honda and PF13 on Jubilee.
O Riley's sells micro guard filters, they said are made by wix, for around $4 with tax. Are they any good? Says on box it has a relief valve and anti drain back.

One must remember that O'Reillys contracts their filters out to the lowest bidder. So while Wix may be making them now, Champ Labs, Fram, Purolator made them in the past or might make them in the future. And if you get an old one off the shelf, it could have been made by anybody.
They're as good as any $4 filter out there and you could easily get 200K miles out of your engine with the MicroGard filter....or any other filter on the market for that matter.

Gamble,
I change oil and filter every 60-75 hours, as soon as oil turns dark. My engines don't use any oil, but as soon as it turns dark, oil level may drop a fraction on stick. That's my clue to check hours on filter and change it.

I'm thinking some small engines on mowers don't have filters. My VW bug didn't have a filter. So Changing oil often and using a cheap filter can't hurt engine as long as it has a relief valve.

The box these filters are in look like new.
Are filters like riding mowers, MTD makes them and puts someone's name on them?
So who makes the filters and puts other names on their filters?

Geo, if you really want to know everything about filters, oil, greases, and additives, go to bobistheoilguy.com. A very interesting site!

Same micronic media, same bypass valve, and same drain-back valve. If WIX is cheaper, I'd use it.

I have no "brand loyalty" to Delco who does not make any filters. Delco brand are made by the same company that makes the Walmart Supertech brand, Bosch, Autozone, etc. WIX makes the filters for other brand names like NAPA, Carquest, Aliance, etc.

Filters by default, cannot filter too much or they will not allow enough oil flow. So any filter will do pretty well. If your running longer, more pleats is important. If your running shorter, any filter will do the same.

Bypass filters the are set up to be out of the main oil path to the engine, by default can super filter the oil and not starve the engine...So they can properly filter super fine particles.

If you run cheap oil, no filter is will save the engine.

good oils are made by default to suspend particles and keep them from clumping and becoming bigger particles. By doing this, the particles stay small enough to not do damage, and not become sludge. These anti clumping additives actually make the oil turn darker faster. This does NOT mean the oil is bad. Just that is working as designed.

The filters may be made by a company for others but they are made to the specs of company buying them not the company manufacturing them.

In my area an independent auto supply sells them and they run about the same price as a NAPA Gold .That's for a filter for a WD45 Allis.
