Using the same planter for years

It does not have all the features of a new planter, but with the precision units it will space and plant corn about as good as anything out there. I have rebuilt it twice in the 25 years I have used it. The 400 ac I plant each year has been very consistent over the time. Like the tractor it does everything I need it to do and really have no plans of replacing either anytime soon. Rod.

I like the way you think. And there is something to be said about knowing your equipment inside and out, not having to troubleshoot complex new stuff that is bound to act up even if it is newer.

Hey Rod, nice looking planting rig. I used a 400 cyclo planter with dry fert. from 1986 to 2014....28 years. 6 row narrow. Before that I used a JI Case 6 row narrow with K-160 planting units. Like yours the 400 cyclo had been rebuilt a couple of times. I now run a 6 row narrow 800 cyclo with dry fert. Picture is of the 930 lp and 400 on its last year.

My brother hooked two 6-row IH planters together so he could plant 12 rows at a time. He made dual hitches for some of his other equipment also. As soon as the neighbors heard that he was retiring, they came and bought all of his dual hookup equipment. including the two 14ft. press drills that he had hooked together. Dual hitches saved him a lot of time in the field.

If I didn t know any better I d say that 1270 was brand new yesterday. Love to see nice equipment taken care of.Nothing wrong with having pride in what we do. RB

The old Deere planter can plant just as accurately as the new ones. I use a 7200 vac with Precision and electric drives. It plants a near perfect stand. The planter tractor is a green one but darned near the same vintage as your Case. And the best part-its paid for.

But, IF you bought a new planter and tractor, then you could pick up an extra 400 or 600 acres, and have to get them all planted in the same amount of time, so you'd have to run harder and later, and buy bigger trucks and tenders, then when harvest came...

you get the idea, it can be real easy to get sucked in, especially when your own worth as a human is reflected in how big your tractor is or how many acres you farm. No thanks, I'm good. I like your style, and the Case looks GREAT!
