There is a 1942 willies jeep sitting not far from my house and it has a pto unit on it. Just wondering what the value of something like that is. Has tires and everything. Lol No seats tho and missing the air cleaner and a few other parts. Not rusty. Any idea what it might be worth?

It seems prices are all over the map. Below is from Military Vehicles 2017 Guide To The Hobby issue, Spring 2017. Since this issue is kind of a bonus "ambassador" issue I hope they don't mind me showing it. Condition 6 is a Parts Vehicle, 1 is restored to professional standards. 5 is restorable, and 4 is Good.

The PTO system - transfer case PTO unit, drive shaft, and rear gearbox - would be worth somewhere in the $500 range based on what I've seen systems sell for on eBay. If the engine has a governor, which many of the jeeps with the rear PTO option would have, that unit would also be worth about another $500 itself.

It is probably a civilian Jeep-CJ-2A- most likely. If so, it would not be a 1942. Civilian Jeeps had tailgates(stamped Willys), 7 inch headlights with trim rings, 6 volt electrical system and other differences. They made quite a few accessories for them, such as pto, 3 point hitch, winches etc. Hard to say on value, but no rust is a big plus.
My cousin has a 1948 CJ-2A the my uncle bought nearly new. My uncle and dad used it farming and we all learned to drive in it. Also have a 1946 that we got from my mom's dad when I was about 7 or 8.
I sold a running CJ-3B 20 years ago for $1,700. It for sure would bring more now.

I love'em. There is a good website for them.

I love toys and i knew a neighbor who hauled not one but Two wagons full of bales with one of 5hose little Willies. Four wheel drive sure helped! If you can get it for any kind of decent price grab it. They are chicken poop simple to work on. Battle field tested. Dont let it slip through your fingers !!!

Don't know Jon - Probably not much ?
PS: Will be up your way next week to visit !! LOL

I wonder if that red one is the one that is up at Rollag most years? Has the mower and most of the other equipment with it too.

I have a 1942 jeep unrestored runs and drives. Was told yesterday by a jeep guy 2500 to 3000. Steve

The old Willys/Jeep CJ series were the original side by side ATVs. Nothing better to stand on than a good heavy Willys hood when you're driving fence posts with a maul, or to haul fencing with, or to do most anything you'd use a SBS ATV for except where it's wet and the ATV with it's lighter weight and wider tires wins out. You can pick up an old Willys for $500-1500. Can't find any SBS ATV/UTV in running condition for that. Plus, I can work on a Willys! No electronics outside of lights and a genny.

My uncle had as WW2 Jeep(?) bought as surplus with a PTO and trencher on the back. He used it to start his plumbing business. The jeep doubled as both his trencher and the family car.

Jon,
Real good website run by David Eilers shows a compilation of Jeeps for sale every day. He has a search method that pulls them up on ebay, Craigslist etc. Also there are real good forums for a variety of Willys and equipment. www.ewillys.com

Dennis Riggs, Sidney, IL is the one that comes to Rantoul. He is one of the experts on jeeps.

The guy I farm with has been all winter trying to restore his grandpa's jeep. Third or fourth motor, carb, starter, brakes, brake lines and cylinder, gas tank full of rust, changed to 12 volt, water pump and more. It is not painted from the grey that it was and a real money pit. A real learning experiance also.
