Paul Harvey

You're aware Harvey was speaking in the 1970's and what he though was wrong with the country was the young people at the time.

LOL. He was one of the first animal rights wackos in media.

I'm laughing at you by the way,not with you.

The good old days that never existed? I'm 72 years old, when I was young our house wasn't locked, keys were left in the car and people trusted each other in our community. Drugs were unheard of (except something used in foreign countries) and divorces were rare, I think only one in my class of 30 something had divorced parents. (We have a friend who's a teacher who recently said only one of her students had both biological parents) Almost all the kids went to summer Bible school and were respectful. Those DO seem like good old days to me. I used to listen to Paul Harvey and agreed with him.

ME, TOO...HE SPOKE @ OSHKOSH FLYIN ONE YEAR...TAUGHT ME THIS...WHY DO WE SAY, TURN @ THE NEXT RED LIGHT?? WHY DONT WE SAY, NEXT GREEN??...WISDOM...BE BLESSED, GRATEFUL, PREPARED...VIET VET, FLYIN 55 YRS

I don't know anything about Harvey other than hearing many of the wonderful talks he had over the radio. He was on air when I was still too young to pay attention, so I probably only heard the best of his work as it was re-aired later on. He spoke of a world with good values and ideals; love; friendship; caring for animals and people and nature. Never did research the guy, but have no reason to disbelieve you on his other ideas - I mean, look at the once-loved Bill Cosby! Still, I have to wonder how much of an "extremist" he was? That's pretty dang harsh. I would put extremists up as folks who harm/kill others or are overly active in promoting racial intolerance, or some such thing.

Paul Harvey's news was fairly straight, but his advertising claims were nothing short of outrageous. Like a 1934 Chevy truck hauling a load of several tons up Pike's Peak as a side trip on the way to California. Even if it did get to the top, how the heck would it get back down, with no more brakes than those old crates had?

Then he advertised a topical balm called "Theragesic" and claimed it was totally odor free. I tried some and it stunk so bad I immediately took a shower and threw the rest of the tube away.

And on it went. He should have been prosecuted for false advertising.

Gear it down; save the brakes!

Paul used to advertise Nutregema(sp?) hand cream. Used on the hands of Noregian fisherman.

A lady once wrote in. Said she put it on her face. Reported that now her face looks like the hands of a Noregian fisherman.

: )

Jeremy, thank you for that link, I truly miss hearing his voice. He stood for the USA and what a great country we have and it's people. Maybe his ad's weren't all that they claimed.I don't believe he purposely tried to mislead anyone. To "gtractorfan" I'm younger than you, but that was how it was when I was young (sure miss those days)....Those words of Paul's were so powerful and uplifting.....Craig

This is a riot! Anybody who would use brakes for going down a mountain with an old straight stick truck I guess would be one who would buy something advertised on a radio program!!
