Any of you JD people have experience with the 2955? There are a few in my area, but I have no first hand experience. I've found a really clean, low hrs. on it, for what appears to be a decent price $14K. New A/C system and int......were these good tractors? Are there any look-outs that I need to be aware of?

Sorry, I'm not one of the authorities. Is it OK if I offer a tidbit? A friend has had a 2950 and a 2955, both for around thirty years. I remember his mechanic working on the hydraulic pump to one of them years ago and saying that it was not well designed. Both of them have loaders, and MFWA, and It appears to me that they have held up well getting used fairly hard.

I have owned my 2955 since new in 1992. Has almost 7000 hours on it now. Replaced a seal in the pto engagement mechanism and a new head gasket and water pump impeller. Very pleased with it. Starts well in cold weather, A/C has never failed, comfortable to operate and not too hard on fuel.Good gear selection for all jobs, plenty of hydraulic capacity. Muffler is expensive for some reason. There are many here that will argue with me but I believe the 55 series to be pretty good tractors. Don't compare them to a Waterloo built because its like apples and oranges. Some had hydraulic issues but I feel they were better than some predecessors.
I could not understand why they moved the slave cylinder for the clutch inside the clutch housing from the outside as the 50 series had. The cab electrical had issues sometimes, Deere printed a manual just for this area.
If you have been running a Waterloo built tractor and move to a Mannheim you may come up short, if you have been running a utility tractor of another color, you will find the 55 will kick that tractors tail.

I think the JD 50 & 55 series utility tractors were good tractors. Most of the hyd bugs had been worked out by the time they were built. Only thing I don't like about JD utility cab tractors of that era is a dry traction clutch operated by a slave/master cylinders & the electrical systems left a little to be desired.

I would not be afraid of a JD 2950 or JD 2955. They did not have the issues that the JD 2840 and JD 2940 tractors did with the hydraulics.
