Follow up on sholder replacement

Saw the head surgeon at Huntington WV VA hospital yesterday. He studied the x-rays and MRIs of my hip and lower back for awhile, turned to me and showed me the damage to my back and said my problem is in my back & not in my hip, sciatic nerve. That's why the injection did nothing in my hip. So he gave me some pretty powerful pain meds (made a pretty cheap drunk, I was very unsteady on my feet all afternoon and evening 600 mg Gabapentin and 100 mg Tramadol. It covered up most of the pain. He is also making an appointment for an injection in my lower back. He says he'll have me able to make hay in May or June. Today I'm walking with my cane just in case. Have a good day guys. Keith

I take 3200mg of gabapentin a day (neurologist prescribed) just to take the edge off. Some days it makes your eyes water and your vision blurry.

I sympathize with you, Keith. I had debilitating sciatica last summer, fall and well into the winter. With prescribed exercise I am doing much better now. I, too, was told that the problem was in my back, not in my leg.

I have a friend who in on Opioids. Be careful, I read the other day that 4 out of 5 Heroin addicts started with Opioid prescriptions. Pain is one thing, addiction another.

Gabapentin is for neuropathy...in the legs. Has nothing to do with back pain. Been on it for a couple of years.

I don't know how in the world I put sholder up there I have absolutely no problem with my sholders. Guess it could have been the meds ( I'll blame them any way LOL

Doc prescribed Gabapentin for me after lung surgery. It really helped calm the nerves that were talking to me. Our vet also prescribed it for our dog. He would hunch up like he had a pinched nerve in his neck.I think it works on about any nerves.

I've had four injections in the last several months. L5 and L4 in my back, left sacroiliac joint, and just this last Monday my right knee.

My knee was the result of a dumb mishap, though. I was putting new license plates on my pickup and slipped on wet grass when I stood up from putting the front plate on. Landed wrong and twisted my knee.

But, for the first time in maybe five months I feel fairly pain free.

We once had a young pastor in our church who told me he complained to his father that his car was wearing out. His father said, "Wait until your body starts to wear out".

It sure is Rick, I got to the point that I couldn't push the pedals on the skid steer or the clutch on any of the tractors. Today I'm gonna use the skid steer to level some ground. I really think I can do it too. Very little pain and it's only sometimes. We'll see what happens LOL. Keith

If you have some time on your hands, search the web for some exercises to do. Barbells, dumbells, weight bench. You'd be amazed at what you can do to tighten the muscles and ease the problem. I've completely fixed my left shoulder, and my right one is good enough to sleep on it and use it fairly normally. It still cracks some when I rotate it,and I'm not going out and pitch a baseball game, but it's 1000% better than it used to be. I had to lay on my side, prop myself up on my elbow and relax until it popped before I could sleep at night. I can sleep most of the night on it now.

At one time, both sides were so bad that when I was out on the tractor all day,I'd have to alternate putting one arm then the other, inside my bibs to take the weight off. They'd ache like a toothache.

Weight lifting over the winter five years ago had me in good shape. It got bad again, but the elliptical has straightened it out again.

My 44 year old son just had 4 heart attacks and double bypass. Shoveled snow a week later. Took Oxy for a week. Nothing now. My 85 yr old aunt fell and broke her hip. Before they operated said she needed 4x bypass .. 11 hours on the table. Next morning the nurse offered her some pain killers and all she wanted was an asperin it it was ok. Tough cookie. I don't think she felt pain. WW11 ex marine. Go figure.
