My 5 year old Kenmore HE has a bearing going out it loud on the spin cycle I told mom I would get her a new washer she washes my threads well whites I rent my work uniforms and ware them 7 days a week. I see folks recommend a Speed Queen so Speed Queen it will be. Question what Speed Queen I saw in a post model AWN-432-S is this the one folks like...

Local Arrons is one of the few places local I found on the net that offer it I have no problem buying it from amazon.

Our six year old front loading Maytag got to roaring so bad
we replaced it. Local appliance man said all the front loading
washing machines last about 6-7 years before bearings go out,
And it isn't an easy job to replace bearings.
We switched to a top loading washer, hope it lasts a little longer.

Hobo, I had a real nice Fisher-Paykel a few
years back that my MIL had given my wife and
I. It was around 20 years old, but really
did a good job. When she gave it to us, it
would leak water out the bottom. Being
direct drive, it was coming out the main
driveshaft that goes from the drum to the
motor. It didn't leak enough water to say
so, but she quit using it because it had a
bearing getting loud as well. I looked up
the parts, a couple seals, and a couple
bearings. I think the parts were around $38.
Took me a little while to figure out how to
get the drum apart, but I got it apart,
changed the bearings and seals, and put it
back together. Took me probably an hour and
a half, so I consider that cheap labor if I
was going to be doing something useless,
although I rarely do. When I got my parts,
they also sent along a couple updated parts
and pieces that I changed as well. I used it
for another 5-6 years after that until the
control board burned up. Then it really
wasn't worth fixing, that part was around
$130. Just an idea anyway, they're not too
bad to work on, if you need to save some
money.

Its the end of the world when a washer/dryer goes out I have no problem fix'N it but mom don't like it, its history... Explain this to a 90 year old woman I as soon just buy a damm new'N and move on with life...

I fixed the one it replaced along with the dryer the dryer stopped working a few mounts ago all it needed was a fuse she would not let me bring the old one back into the house, The old washer is not coming back in either. She does not ask for much if a new one makes her happy a new one it will be...

Having a new Speed Queen delivered tomorrow!! Traditional knob type, no electronics. Finally after 31 years wife would not tolerate any more repairs. Mechanics were still good; only the outer porcelien tank leaking too much. We bought it from local mom/pop store now on its third generation.

Scrolling down the Amazon ad...

Under the "Technical Details" it lists it's origin as "imported".

Hopefully that is incorrect. Thought all were USA made.

If it is similar to my sister's, I had to tip it back and tighten the nylon driven pulley. That was a year ago and it works like a champ.

color=blue:4b67ffb412][/color:4b67ffb412]I have a Maytag Centenial , that is about 4 years old, it is a top loading mach. and for awhile now the towels have been coming out not smelling fresh, even after the dryer and liquid fabric softener and also dryer sheets. I happen to think about washing the washer...........of all things. I ran 1/3 full load with a lot of bleach in it, and that helped for awhile, but it is back again. I took hold of the basket and shook it, water sloshed around, so this tells me that the washer retains water............for whatever reason? Is this normal? Any ideas on what to do? I really would like for my towels, clothes, etc. to smell fresh, after a wash. I am fed up with Maytag, no more. I like Whirlpool, that is what my last one was and it always got the clothes clean. I appreciate any help on this matter. (Even if this is a tractor site..have tractor questions too.) [color=darkblue:4b67ffb412][/color:4b67ffb412]

I had the same thing happen to a Whirlpool washer.
Bearing went out in 1.5 years. Whirlpool only has a
one year warranty. Thank God I bought an extended
warranty from Lowes. I got a full refund on washer
because they said it was too costly to repair.

I had to spend my refund at Lowes. The only washer I
could find that didn't look like it was built by
Whirlpool Corp was a GE.

I like the Ge better. Takes less time. No locking
lid. Can set water level.

In less than 2 years a control switch went bad.
Thank God I purchased another extended warranty,
because the service call would have been more just
the service.

I'm convinced they don't make anything to last, so
buy an extended warranty. I'm very glad I did.

Silverwings, might be a couple of different things happening there. First thing would be the most obvious, and that's to check the water drain for signs of blockage and make sure the pump is functioning correctly. However, these newer machines have electronic controls, and I suspect this is where your problem may lie. Try checking the pump and drainage to rule those out. Then check with local appliance places, craigslist, newspaper and any other place you can think of for the same model machine that maybe has something else wrong with it other than the control panel - like maybe the motor went out. Should be able to pick up a used (but non-working) machine for no more than $20, if not free.

If water usage is a factor a front loader uses 1/3 of what a top loader uses, and has three times the agitation. This is basically why there is no such thing as a top loading commercial or industrial washer. They are all front or end loaders. Our front loader is our second in 28 years.

We bought new Speed Queen washer and dryer about 3 years ago. Washer is a model AWN412SP111TW01. Has never had an issue. Right now it is washing 3 pair of Key Imperial Bib overalls and a bunch of tee shirts.

What's up with that? Do you change your bibs every day? You must be a classy dresser, LOL.

Been working on some particularly DIRTY projects lately.

OK done deal brought a AWN432 with manual controls. $849.00 delivery charge $65 installed. A store out of town had it in stock its a 100 mile are so round trip. They wanted $95 and settled for $65 :)...

The best I can tell is they offer 3 models the difference is in the controls electronic are manual. I will repair the old one and keep it as a spare for the one that's in another house I own it has the zack same washer.

Thanks much...

Sounds like a plan!

A few years back, our top load Maytag finally broke down for the umpteenth time, and at the time we were really low on funds. Saw an ad in a paper for (2) front load Maytag washing machines; one that the circuit board went bad and the other was some other problem - I think something to do with the drum. The guy wanted $50 for both, but wife got them for $25. Loaded them up, got them home, but didn't have a place indoors big enough to work on them, So I got one out of the pickup bed (a short box, no less!) and worked on the other in the bed of the truck, as the ground was still FULLY saturated from the Spring melt.

Not really sure how long ago that was - maybe 5-6 years? The "new" old washer is still going strong and hasn't required the slightest bit of tweaking.

I called every dealer listed with in a 50 mile range it was the best deal. Local I found one it was the electronic model @995.00... I want the old one out of the house rat now before it leaks and ruins a expensive floor.

Yes. A local, family owned business is where we found ours. Big box stores do not carry Speed Queen.
