Need Help Setting Seed Drill....

I have been reading in my book for the JD 450 drill I got, and I honestly can't figure out what I am doing. Hopefully someone can explain this stuff to me?

I have the fertilizer figured out. I found the Density per Cu. Foot, and worked the equation that then tells me what gear box setting to set it at. Got that figured it.

Seeds are a problem though. First of all, what is the difference between "Large side of feed wheel" and "Small side of feed wheel" ? I have 7.5" drill spacing, I know that! Also, when you look at the chart (pictures included) Under Barley, it shows "12 - 14 - 16" across the top row, with 3 different values for "Lb's Per Acre" below. No where here do I see WHERE to set the lever for how many seeds I want to put on?

Next, it looks to me like per the chart, I need to go to Double Speed in order to put on 100 lbs of barley per acre, it says in the book that if I reverse two of the gears in the left side cover, it will be in double speed. There are charts for the fertilizer being in Double speed as well, but that isn't necessary to put on what I want, however I can still do what I want in double speed, so this question is, IF I change those two gears around and go to double speed on the seed box, will that ALSO mean the drill is in double speed for the fertilizer box?

Thoughts?

Inside the box there is a cover over either the large side or the small side of the feed wheel. Planting 100 lbs you will need the large side of the feed wheel. Remove or loosen the bolt that hold the cover, and you will see what I'm talking about. Now the numbers 12, 13, 14 that are in the chart indicate where the little lever is on the outside of the feed cup, the small side should have numbers 1 threw 10 the large side will have 10 to 20. These levers can be tough sometimes to move, you will need to soak them in your favorite potion. As far as the gearing I'm not too familiar with that as Jd had several different set ups

The 450 was available with either a "fluted feed" or "double run" style of feed so the manual should have instructions and rate charts for both. As JDV indicated the double run has a moveable cover that you position over the unused side of the wheel and the instructions that you reference would be talking about that style of feed. The fluted feed has a horizontal fluted cylinder that adjusts by sliding back and forth and does not have large and small sides like the double run. You'll need to make sure you're in the right section of the manual that corresponds to the style of drill you have.

Oh okay! I for sure have Flutes and Drop cups.

I looked in the seed drill lid last night when I came home. The stickers in there are WAY easier to understand that the book!?!?
