Old Separator

We had our first real rain on Thursday night which is finally starting to turn up some green grass. I took this shot out in the pasture today where all you can see is last year's "prairie wool" and a few crocus plants. The old Red River Special always makes a good subject or background for pictures.

Thanks for posting the nice photo. Our family had a Red River Special, but I'm too young to remember using it.

I do remember using the corn binder, and a Rosenthal husker/shredder. The Rosenthal was sold to an Amishman about an hour away, in the early 1970's, they're probably still using it. I'm 64 years old.

Very nice picture! Although, for some reason I was expecting a cream separator, LOL. In the Midwest those machines were called threshing machines.

Yes, could mean either. But as kids we were always told it was the old separator. The term threshing machine was also used in conversation.
I sharpened and lightened up that photo a bit.

I shocked my last bundles in the summer of 1955. I am glad to have had the experience of listening to, feeding or walking on top of a running thresher. IaLeo
