I wouldn't recommend using a 500 gallon fuel oil tank like I did. Sides aren't strong enough.
I would recommend 900 - 1000#/ft.

I have just what you need. I have an old road roller which was Military surplus and was sold the a small town close to me and then it was sold to a guy who then had an auction and I got it. Sold the front roller off of it to a guy who wanted it to roll his filed where he flew his plane out of. I still have the back roller and have never figured out what to do with it. You can even fill it with water to make it heavier. But it is also not light since the tag on the machine says something like 8-15 tons

How much does the roller weigh and how wide is it?

I saw a guy use the roller off an asphalt roller and it was only about 3 ft wide. Wasn't wide enough to cover the rear wheels of the tractor.

This roller is around 6 foot wide. As for how much it weights I do not know. It stands about 4.5-5 foot around and the part that rolls on the ground looks to be 1/2 inch tick if not 3.4 inch. This is an old asphalt roller used in road construction. It had a 227 Cont. engine in it which I sold and it was a rebuilt engine and even had a plate on it saying when it was rebuilt and by who
 
I showed the stick to the wheels clay I roll with it.

900#/ft works on this soil when it's workable, wet.

On dry sandy ground, roller won't do much good.
I only use it on sandy ground in the spring when the frost leaves.
 
Yep has to pipe plugs in one side of it to fill with water to make it heavier. Send me an e-mail and I'll take a few pictures of it. This is the back drive roller and still in the machine what is left of it that is. Looks like a guy could cut or maybe unbolt the frame in one area and then make a tongue hitch set up pretty easy
