Long 460 loader

Hi all,Really needing some help. I'm putting a 1246 Massey Ferguson front end loader on my Long 460 tractor. When I hook up the hydraulic lines I have to use the spool control valve lever to send oil to the loader. How can I hook it up so I don't have to use spool control lever cause that's not working right. Loader has a joystick type control valve. With 2 hydraulic line one shows it goes to the pressure and one goes to the return but I hook it that way and the loader will raise up but I can't till the bucket. Hook it up to the other line to the pressure and I can till the bucket but can't raise it. Please help. Thanks

When you hook into the 460 remote's are you tying the lever back when you operate the loader? Also did the MF have a open or closed hydraulic system?I would think you need an open system
valve to make the loader work with the 460's hydraulic the way you're doing it.

I've never dealt with a jot stick valve, but it would have to operate like any other valve in the end.

I don't think the problem is in the spool valve, that has to be in position to send pressure to the loader.

And reversing the lines is not good, that could damage the valve. If it is marked P (pressure) and T (return), keep it that way.

Sounds like something is switched between the joystick valve and the cylinders. You could disconnect everything, get an air gun and start blowing through the P port, see where the flow goes. Most valves ports are marked. P and T are the pressure and return, A and B are the cylinder connections. Each cylinder will connect to an A and B port.

Something else to check, being the spool valve needs to be tied back to get pressure to the loader, sounds like your tractor uses an "open center" valve system. That means the hydraulic oil freeflows through the valve, back to the tank when the valve is in the neutral position. Check the joystick valve to be sure it is an open center. If it is closed center (the P port is blocked in neutral) it will have to be changed, otherwise the system will be deadheaded against the relief valve and will overheat the oil, drag down the power.

I'm offering a lot of guess work here, so don't take this as the truth, do your own homework before making any expensive decisions!
