Use a 350 cca sealed lawn tractor battery, it will be fine.

There are 2 things you can do to make it more comfortable. The first is to use a clutch type starter drive. New style with no large spring. The second is to use #4 cables instead of #1 or larger. The smaller cables act as a moderator for the impact when engaging the starter. Jim

I agree, clutch type starter drive, really quiets them down.

I agree with the other gents, use of a smaller CCA battery and/or lighter cables will help soften the blow.

Converted a C and a 200 to 12 volts. Used 650 cca batteries, fairly heavy cables. Origional starters. No problems. Just don't crank a long time and overheat starter. Change to 12v coils.

Thank you for the reply, I feel using a 350cca 12 volt battery is the best option.
