I got the repro gauges for the 901 from this site, turns out a 195 thermostat opens up in the red, I will back down to 180.

Here is picture of them on 901

I am really happy with how they look.

I would be sure the accuracy of the gauge was correct. There should be a way to make sure it is not reading high. The 190 stat should be OK. Maybe it is at fault, as in being faulty. Does the tractor temp (on the gauge) fall back to normal when warmed up. Testing the Thermostat in a pan of water heated to boil is one test. Putting the Thermostat in the same pan will tell when it opens as well. Jim

Another way to check it is to go to Horrible Fright and get a small laser thermometer. Use it to check the radiator and head area temps. It only costs about ten bucks and can be as handy as a pocket on a shirt for bearings and other stuff- like screwing with the dog or cat.......

yelp.. 195* would be in the red on the older tractors... lots of them only ran a 3 lb cap...

160 was about normal for those.

Won't bother it a bit, just run a good 50/50 mix with distilled water and a pressure cap.
Odd job, parade and putting around tractors will burn the fuel cleaner at 195F .

The engine and its efficiency is actually better at 200 than 180. I would see if I couldn't get the gauge adjusted to read mid run. Jim

The old all fuel tractors kept the shutters closed to run on the edge of boiling over so they must have operated at 212 and little more. Did not seem to bother them.
